Hi everyone- I hope anyone here can PLEASE give me some recommendations for some online FNP programs???
I am currently enrolled in a B/M program and it is EXTREMELY challenging. I am required to have a very specific GPA in each class to progress to the next semester, and I'm not sure if I will make it this semester. Sadly, I am 2 years into a 3 yr program but may find myself out of the program. I also have recently found out that several students have switched out of the FNP option in the past several years due to this grading system. It is a fairly new thing and many really GREAT nurses are finding themselves below the requirements.
I am trying to contemplate my options and there are few. I could transfer into the MSN Educator or Administrator options but don't have a whole lot of job prospects in my area of the world for those roles- but still an option. There would also be the idea of doing this THEN doing the post-grad FNP certificate.
I could also transfer schools and I know of several nurses that I work with in my huge corporation who are doing online programs. I am unsure if there are any FNP programs that are wholly online, and more importantly, would accept transfer credits from my current program. Lastly, I don't want to spend more than 30K more than I already have to get this done...
having said all of this, does anybody have any recommendations for online programs? I am FNP right now and would stay that direction due to broad job options in my rural area of the world.
thanks for insight!!!!!
Hello, I am very interested in what you have to say about Olivet's FNP program. I am strongly considering starting in May. I do have some concerns however. 1. The large amount of clinical hours needed 2. Completely online vs. classroom time. Any information you have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Hi kyates, I think the large amount of clinical hours is actually a plus. We get to have more experience in our role before doing it on our own as certified NPs. The classes are completely online. There will be no classroom time, unless you will be taking the classes that they have locally in Indiana and Illinois.
Thank you cherub for the feedback. Have you started the program? I am getting concerned because everyone I keep hearing from is saying negative things. The main complaint is that the program and professors are very disorganized. I have spoken to 4 people and of the 4 only one has anything positive to say. Is there any feedback you can give on this? Thanks.
Wait someone is actually concerned by a large amount of clinical hours?Wow.
Clinical hours are one of the most important things about becoming a NP. I would be very leary of a school that has low hours. I am thankful that my program's hours are patient based rather than clinic based...ie: you can only the count the time your are dealing directly/indirectly with a patient rather than being at the clinic for "x" amount of time. I put my time in and MORE. I took advantage of every single minute I could to get 1-on-1 experience.
Let me clarify, the concern is not necessarily the amount of clinical hours as it is being able to complete that number of hours within 12 months in addition to the assignments, exams, working, and family. I am all for hands on experience, I feel that is the best way to learn especially in this line of work. I am just trying to gauge how manageable it is to accomplish 720 clinical hours within 12 months along with all of the other demands. From what I have seen ONU has one of the highest clinical hour demands.

My FNP is all online with the exception of a residency that is over several days where you practice advance skills such as suturing, casting, pelvic exams, scrotum exams, etc. You do find your own clinicals though.
It is one class per 6 or 7 weeks.
