thanks! for some reason the magnifying glass icon doesn't show up for a few seconds after the page loads. guess I should be more patient.

That was one of the things that got me too.

Having been with AN for several years, I've seen multiple changes. Yes, they take some getting used to. However, I've found that within a few days (sometimes less, sometimes more, depending on the extent of the change) that it's like second nature. Heck, I couldn't even tell you what the forum looked like when I first joined anymore- although I do know that "likes" weren't a part of it, and I think that's one of the best changes I've seen. As with everything else out there, technology evolves, sites grow. I can't even imagine how the servers from 2, 5, 10, years ago could handle the volume and wealth of information provided here!

Question about private messages (this may be irrelevant to the changes):

I like the new layout so far, and it has allowed me to see a few private messages that I didn't notice before. I replied to them, one with a long reply that took a while to write, and neither of them are showing the replies. I am wondering if it just takes a while for the replies to show up?

OK, things I like better about the new format: When I press the 'Top' button, all the links to what I want to do are right there, instead of me having to scroll down again to get to the link to my bookmarks. Also, the search feature is right there too, to get to 'new posts'. And, the alert red thingie is only a dot, not a huge band. Much more tasteful.

Well done, Joe!

Are you talking about private messages that you send to a member? Or, are you talking about posting on the public boards? If the latter, where are you posting? Some forums are moderated and take a while for staff to approve for public viewing although we try and approve asap.

Yes, private messages to a member. I wrote the reply and clicked send, then went to view the conversation and my reply is not there. I also clicked on the "sent messages" tab and it only showed one message that I sent several months ago. I'm hoping I don't have to re-type the messages.

Edit: I checked my inbox and I received a reply from one of my messages, so I assume it did go through lol. It's still not showing up in the conversation or in my sent messages box though, weird. oh well :)

The "likes" used to be called "kudos" and the unique way AN displays them vs Facebook is one of my favorite things about this site. The first big change a couple of years ago was to this whiter, brighter look that (ahem) some of us :bag: may have been a little too crusty about have made the more recent changes a breeze! Now I have a hard time remembering exactly what was worth the slight hissy some people had over the darn thing! :woot:

Try now. :)

You should be able to send a message and have it saved in your sent folder now.

So how do I get rid of the "strip" across the bottom of my screen that has different icons on it like Facebook, Twitter, a printer icon, etc. most of the time I am on my phone and stay logged of and not comment because this strip makes it a pain to do so...like right now! Doesn't show up anywhere else that I know of but I really don't "go" anywhere else ;)

What do the little colored dots next to user names mean?
