Received grades for 1st semester...

Published

Can I gloat just a little bit? I started an ADN nights/weekends program this fall. The lectured endlessly during the application process, orientation, and again during the semester that working FT during classes was a 1st class ticket to failure. After doing that they gave a nice long lecture telling all of us that were A students to plan on being C students from now on (80% is the lowest passing grade in our program).

I have a 4 y/o son, a 27 y/o husband that acts like a 4 y/o son, worked 40 hours/week (w/ a 45 minute one way commute), took Nursing Fundies and Pathophys and worked my tail off this semester. I can officially say that i have two bright shiny A's to show for the effort. :D

Now to be fair, my nursing A is litterally the lowest A possible and I don't think my patho A is a very high A either, but I still get to see that 4.0 for the semester. :yeah:

I totally get that it was just 1st semester and I have plenty of time to crash and burn so i'm not getting cocky, just really excited that I could look at one of my professors w/ a big "I TOLD YOU SO" after her making a snide comment prior to finals about my grades this semester. :angryfire

I am bummed to have lost a few friends from the program after they missed the 80% cutoff by just a few points so I don't want to say anything to anyone I know IRL or on my facebook because of that so I had to at least shout it here. :)

*ETA* that in my gloating I should also have thanked my family (my husband, son, and extended family) for being so supportive especially when I gave up doing any kind of housekeeping somewhere around mid semester (side note: I started cleaning last night and you can finally see our office floor for the first time in probably 3 months lol)

Congrats! I don't think that you sound cocky at all, just someone who is proud of her grades, which you should be, since you worked hard for them! I can't stand when teachers tell you that you will fail if...(fill in the blank). I know they are trying to help but what negative comments! Anyhoo! Congrats again!

Congratulations on your grades! I too work full time and just completed my first semester. I can't wait until Wednesday to see my grades! Have you ever heard that saying "If you want something done give it to a busy person" ? I got done my last clinical on Saturday and started cleaning that night. I'm going to get out my vacuum cleaner again tonight and put the brush attachment on and dust! Congrats!

You have something to be cooky about, lol! That's awesome...congrats! :)

Well good on you. I think the first semester is crucial for a new student. You are getting used to the time, the way the class is set up, the teaching layout, etc etc.... So if you can push out a 4.0 (high or low) in the first semester, you gloat all you want... gloat away my friend!

:yeah:Congratulations!!!

As a FT worker bee, mom, and wife, I know what a challenge it can be to keep that GPA up!

i am right there with you!!! working and school full time, thank goodness I AM DONE!!! now only leadership and practicum on my way!

Congratulations! :)

I totally know what you mean about FB though, I have some friends from school on FB and didn't want to post about my 4.0 (especially after I posted my A in A&P), when I knew that many of them struggled in their classes, while I didn't nearly have the struggles (admittedly, I'm only taking core classes now, not to nursing classes yet).

Congrats, Congrats!! What an awesome achievement!
