today i just met with an acadeic advisor at my school and found out some very discouraging things. 1. i will have to stya at my cc for another semester, 2. my academic record is distasteful because i have two w's and one f, 3 i have to take another lab(i recently developed a hate for labs). i was so happy becasue i finally thought i had everything figured out, my transfer was gonna be smooth, my grades were good, and class is almost over but now i have slipped into a sad place. considering the fact that it is gonna take me three years to get an associates degree and 6 years to get a bachlors i figure i might as well try to get into an assocites/diploma nursing program but, after talking to the advisor i am really discouraged. the advisor told me i wouldnt be a good canidate for my schools prgoram becasue they select students on a point system and i had lost three points because of my withdrawls and my "f". finding this out i figured if my school wouldnt want me no one else would. i am trying to not drown myself in sorrow but it is very hard because i really thought i would be able to start my program in fall 04. i needed to vent! thanks for listening, i must now prepare for my bio and sociology test tomorrow.

what is bankruptcy on a failed classes?

at some schools depending on the specified time period, you can have classes "eliminated" so it will not affect your gpa. i don't think it can be transfered but used at the school with the class/es-grade/s in question? i posed a question [because it may be so ] so she may check and she if this is possible ways she attends school.

i haven't done this personally but have heard something to the effect. an "f" is beyound the grade needed for a specific degree.

hon, don't give up....it's easy to give up, don't take the easy way out.

THIS is the best advice you could get.

I'm sure you've heard throughout life that obstacles WILL get in your way.....and I reckon you've also heard it's up to you to kick them out of the way. Start kickin'.

Don't allow yourself to be defeated. Expect miracles and they will occur.

Truuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuust me. ;)

Please don't give up! Can you possibly go the diploma route, and then when you finish that, do the diploma rn to bsn? I'll bet you could easily get into the diploma program for 2004.

Hello Ms Jkm,

Dont let them discourage you. I am a male student in a georgia 2yr nursing program, and I have seen alot of that. You keep on moving no matter what it takes, even if you have to find another school to get your education. You will know that you have failed if you dont ever try again, but if keep kicking, you will get it. And take that from someone who knows.

Cman

MsJKm, Many years ago I had a "W" grade on my transcripts and like you it pulled my GPA down. I had it on transcripts for years until about 5 years ago I just asked if it could be removed and it was. I just think you need to look into it and see if it helps. Good luck..

I am not a nurse yet and can't begin to understand how you feel but I bet that any nurse you talk to will tell you that it was not easy for them to get into and finish nursing school. Nothing good comes easy. Please don't give up and I hope everything works out for you.

To miss JKm, please keep the faith. we are a very much needed profession. think of your future patients. i understand how you feel. i'm just about to finish my first nursing semester. coming into nursing, i was an A student-now i'm holding a B. sometimes we have to allow for some shortcomings. yes, i would have loved to have maintained a 4.0 but guess what life goes on. i'll be alright with an B-especially since i work 2 jobs and have children. and you know what, if i never re-gain my 4.0, i'll have to adjust. it's all up to you and what's "okay" for you and nobody else but you. so even with all the pep talk we give you here, you have to do what feels good for you and what's good for you!!!!KEEP YOUR HEAD UP!!!!MUCH LUV!!!!PS-a great support/study system or group is what kept me going

Nursing isn't the only career out there. Be explorative. Think outside the box. Plenty of opportunities out there. Perhaps you are being guided away from nursing for a purpose. Follow your heart from within. It will work out.

I read something on here that I found encouraging. Someone said their instructor asked the question, "what do you call a nurse with a 4.0 grade point average?" answer, "a nurse".....then asked "what do you call a nurse with a C average?" answer, "A NURSE!!!!"

Very few people are in a postition where perfect grades are likely or even possible. The point is to get through the program and pass the boards. Congrats to those who are able to make straight As but Im not one of those people and besides I know wayyy too many people with masters and doctorate degrees and my own sister who is a lawyer who are examples of "book smart" ppl who have NO COMMON SENSE!! These people are very easy to spot and many times their people skills suck, and there are others who have more common sense than book smarts who have huge hearts and shining personalities and those make the best professionals and especially great nurses. Your grade point average doesnt have much to do with how good of a nurse you will be, so keep your head up and keep trucking it! Research other nursing programs and research voactional/tech schools with LPN programs where u could later bridge over. I promise you that one little W and one F will not hurt you at many places. Dont give up, Ive been trying for the past year to find a nursing program to get into and finally one fell into place and I hope to start in June. Good luck in whatever you do!

No hon....don't give up. I've read your posts for quite some time on here and you sound truly motivated to be a nurse. Keep plugging away....you're young and you have plenty of time. Look at me...I gave up a nursing career when I was 19 yo only to go back to it now....I'm 50 and a freshman in a wonderful diploma program. It's too easy to give up so please don't! You can do it.

cheers
