Rate My Professor

Published

Since I am almost done with my prerequisites, I wanted to share something that I thought was fun and interesting. If you are signing up for a course, or done with a course, you can put your two cents here and rate your professor. You can see what other students have written about the professor before you take the class.

Of course we all know that some professors you just can't get away from. I thought this was an interesting site regardless.

Let me know what you all think....

WOW. I never heared of this website but I just used it. I was feeling pretty good the first few because most of the responses were good for them until I got to the last teacher. Every one of hers were bad. Almost all the students said they couldn't understand her and she didn't follow the book. Ugh... if I hadn't already bought the book...

that's what i noticed... A&P II teacher had rave reviews... they didnt have not one nice thing to say about this poor guy since the thing started and not the usual i got a bad grade because i am lasy or just a slob.....oh well i live another day to fight another battle.:zzzzz

I always use Rate My Professor, and sure it's all subjective, but I've always found it to be very true. I always rate my professors and it seems that my ratings generally agree with the ones before me. I don't think I would ever risk taking a teacher who had all bad reviews.

I NEVER sign up for a class without consulting Rate My Proffesors.com and Pic_a_prof.com. They are both good tools that tell me what my chances are of succeeding in that class. I've had some really bad teachers -ones who hated teaching and my grades suffer because of it. I'm spending my time, effort and money in a class, I want to know I'm taking the best teacher I can for all my efforts.

Just remember - everything written is subjective. You may actually like a teacher with a bad comment. I find the comments usually tell me something about how that person teaches. It will give you a slight edge going into the class.

Rate My Prof can be valuable resource. But the professor can dispute any posting and have it removed. So don't worry to much about disgruntled students getting back at former instructors. Where I've found the site to be useful is in the overall picture it gives about a professor.

If there are a couple of bad reviews posted. Then yes, perhaps it's just acouple of angry students. But if the overall trend seems to indicate a bad professor, then maybe it's worth avoiding that "Problem-Prof".

Have any of you watched the videos where the professor "fights back"? Some are hilarious!

Really? I didn't know that... Do you know a prof. who disputed a posting?

Yes, I have. My favorite is this guy:

I would love to take a course from him! I think my sides would be splitting!

There's another video -- I can't find it right now -- of a prof who has his mother reading a note begging students to give him a chili pepper! Hysterical!

I love this headline on one of the professor video responses: "College brochures forgot to mention that whole reading thing" :chuckle

This site is a godsend. I have used it to pick all of my teachers and they really are great teachers!:yeah:

If you're stuck taking that professor, think of it this way: now you have some of the "inside scoop" on what makes her tick. You can start thinking of ways you could approach her that would make her a more helpful/useful professor to you. I did that with one prof. I had no choice but to take him. So I read all the negative reviews, figured out what his general approach was, and went from there. Lots of after-class conversations with him helped. :) He turned out to be a very nice person who is still on the learning curve as far as teaching methodology goes. So I stopped listening when he said something like, "Let's do example 45 on page 548". I knew he frequently messed up equations on the board, so I just followed the example in the book and didn't pay attention to him so that he didn't confuse me! It worked out great. And you know? He turned out to be the BEST lab instructor (in my school the teachers teach and do lab as well). Very patient, very hands-on. I loved him.

So you see? Now you have some insider information you can put to use. Read those negative comments carefully and see if you can figure out an "in" with this teacher. Or, if you really, REALLY don't want to take her, see if you can find another section with another prof!

I go thru the same torture every semester.......I register for classes and then rush home and go to this website. Then I worry until the classes start. I, too, take meticulous notes, sit up front, don't miss a class, etc. Some of the ratings are accurate, however, many are not. It always helps to remember that in most classes there are the students that give a blank look and say "we had an assignment due?" "we have a test today?" and they are the ones that complain the professors are too difficult and give too much work. If they spent all of their energy doing the assignments instead of complaining, they would probably do pretty well. Try to keep it in perspective and good luck!

At my school, I register through their online system while sitting in the student center. As I register, I have another window open on the computer, with ratemyprofessors.com on the screen. I check the prof before I register -- saves a lot of time and worry! :) I see other students doing the same thing.

Hi all....

If you need to know anything about future professors.... you can go to this site.

http://www.ratemyprofessors.com/index.jsp?country=0

Click on "Find your school" and just follow the prompts. This can help you find GOOD professors for your prerequisites and see what others had to say about them. Also, it might give you insight on what to look forward to with your Nursing professors.

I used this guide to choose my professors for my AA degree, and was quite pleased....

Just note, alot of "kids" post on their and give their professors bad marks if they didn't do well or there was "too much work"... but you can pretty much figure out for yourself which are the good ones.

Hope this helps!!!!
