Rate My Professor

Published

Since I am almost done with my prerequisites, I wanted to share something that I thought was fun and interesting. If you are signing up for a course, or done with a course, you can put your two cents here and rate your professor. You can see what other students have written about the professor before you take the class.

Of course we all know that some professors you just can't get away from. I thought this was an interesting site regardless.

:wink2:

Let me know what you all think....

I also rate my profs at the end of the semester, figuring someone else might benefit from reading my comments.

I L O V E THAT SITE!!!

Unfortunately some teachers aren't up there.. like my oh so wonderful ap2 professor. That site has guided me into the classrooms of the best professors I have ever met.

I also am a "gunner" for interacting with professors before semester starts, especially when I transferred & and didn't know any of the professors. I email them and ask for a syllabus and try to meet them if I can. Sometimes they aren't responsive, but it's worth a shot.

Just like everyone learns differently, every professor teaches differently.. it's best to try to match yourself up with a professor that relates to your learning style.

Though.. there will always be the bad apple that you despise... lol

Just keep in mind that the students who are unhappy with their grades tend to be more motivated to post a rating on the site. :)

If I see a prof. who is almost completely negatively-rated and there are thoughtful ratings for her/him, I avoid that professor. But if the ratings are something like, "She was SO HARD! She gave us a quiz every class and wouldn't accept late labs!", then I know the writer wanted something for nothing.

I had a professor last Spring who was wonderful, but who got a lot of negative ratings because he is tough and takes no BS from students. I found him to be fair and thorough. What more could I have asked?

So read the ratings with a grain of salt. Some of them will be so negative, you'll just know to run far away from that professor. :)

My daughter just started community college this week and called me concerned about her math teacher, who had gotten negative reviews. I told her to wait to make her own assessment and don't let that site color her perceptions because as you said, most of the negatives are from folks who are angry with their grades and want some payback.

She called me last night THRILLED with her math teacher. He is kind, funny and smart and expects the class to do well.

Nothing like pre-prejudicing yourself against your professor, so that if you are lazy, won't study, and fail, you have a handy excuse already made up.

I used RateMyProfessor my first semester and ended up with awesome professors. Unfortunately, I haven't had the luxury to pick and choose these days so I can't really use it effectively anymore.

oh no.... i just checked my A&P II professor and its 3 pages of negative reviews with a few good ones... now i have to decide either drop it for micro or just tough it out???:banghead::banghead::banghead:

As folks have said here, be careful believing the negative stuff.

I had an awesome anatomy prof and he was tough but fair. And would bend over backwards to help you get through the class. I worked for him the next year and we had an especially whiny class to deal with - really the dumb things they complained about were amazing.

We got him a "No Whining" t-shirt at the end of that class.

I really think it depends on the kinds of things mentioned.

I've had 3 RN-BSN classes . .two great teachers and one very disorganized teacher (she taught theory). She really didn't know the subject but we all managed to get through the 5 week class and do ok.

Things like "never on time", "forgets to bring material for class", "doesn't know about well-known theories", etc.

Still - even with a bad teacher, you can excel. It is up to you.

Good luck!

As Mama2jandc said "sometimes a student got a bad grade so they are slamming the teacher". i had to take a foreign as a pre req i checked the site and what they said about the prof that had was horrible. However, she was not bad. some students just want a good grade and don't want to work for it. i went to the class did all my assignments on time, participated in class. at the end i had a nice "A".

you are already in the class, just do what you have to do. You can do it.

WOW. I never heared of this website but I just used it. I was feeling pretty good the first few because most of the responses were good for them until I got to the last teacher. Every one of hers were bad. Almost all the students said they couldn't understand her and she didn't follow the book. Ugh... if I hadn't already bought the book...
