Random Thoughts about School Nursing not juicy enough for their own topic start here!
My mantra lately: "Wash your HANDS, go back to CLASS and cover your COUGH!"
I've heard of schools adding additional minutes on the day to make up for lost time but I'm not sure how this works.... I need to book it out of work at 3pm sharp to get to my kids as they get home (different school district than I work in). There is no way I could stay additional time each day. And I'm certain the school would not be excited to pay me for time that I could not stay for.
We added on an hour for 6 weeks last year to make up days. It was torture. TORTURE. They don't care about your schedules at home. I, too, had my own kids in another district to get off the bus also. Didn't matter. Had to make accommodations for those 6 weeks.
I went back the week before labor day, but because of that, my public charter school builds in 5 snow days (185 school days scheduled).
The Northeast does a February and April vacation (both one week long), which I know is not the norm in other places. Most public school districts start the day after Labor Day. Labor Day is so late for the 2015-2016 year the public schools won't be starting until Sept 8! (I will start Aug 31, which is super late for me).
Because of 8 snow days (!) we had to add 3 days to the calendar. The public school had to add 8 (!) and are going to school until June 30 (!).
God bless those entertainment troops who do school-wide anti-bullying assemblies, etc! An hour of NO VISITS is a great gift.
It seems like EVERY assembly I have at least one student who feels faint or overheated by being in a big crowd. A couple years ago I had a student with a nervous stomach who would get diarrhea during every assembly and spend the whole time in my bathroom.
It sucks because a few of the assemblies I would really like to see!
Why must staff members feel it necessary to send a kid who has had a "________________all day long" to the clinic right in the middle of their lunch? Lierally, kids take 2 bites, leave tray and come here. Now, I understand being sent for nausea or no apetite but a sore shoulder or a heacache. Can it seriously not wait 13 minutes? A hypoglycemic headache from not eating sure won;t help their ailment.
