I turned off my "like" notifications yesterday. I forgot that I turned them off. All day today, every time I logged in, I was mildly disappointed that I had no "like"s. Then I remembered that I turned off notifications.
I have turned them back on. I guess I need that validation.

Here you go, the bigger selection. I keep them bookmarked in their own tab, easily accessible. I just wish I could use them in regular email. :)
Oh dear... that's quite the list!

I'm liking liking likes too.
Next?
Wait, there's no "LIKE" button on akulahawk's great post .... FAIL!!
Well someone found the "like" button on my post above!!
While I like getting "likes," it's more just a way for me to directly see that I'm contributing something that other people agree with or find useful.
I wish they'd put smileys on the mobile app. Since my lap top was stolen I only use the mobile app because its too hard to read/post on the mobile web version. I bet if I got to use some of the cool emoticons I'd get more likes on my posts haha
You can Get around this by typing the characters yourself.

If you'd like to read speculative fiction about the power of "likes," I can highly recommend "Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom," by Cory Doctorow, here from Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Down-Magic-Kingdom-Cory-Doctorow/dp/076530953X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1405127839&sr=8-1&keywords=down+and+out+in+the+magic+kingdom or download for free from here Down and Out In the Magic Kingdom » Download for Free It's hard for me to believe this book is 12 years old!
I was at a forum once that had a reputation system that included getting negative reputation. You got a red mark for a negative rep, they could add a comment. It was anonymous. It was very nasty and they did away with the whole thing. I think the thank you button is perfect.
I hate the reputation system. They used it on one of the online game forums (real controversial stuff about gnomes and clearing imaginary woodland). If someone made a complaint about the game a number of people would downvote their reputation so their next posts had to have moderator approval, even if it was completely innocuous. It just irritated people and they left.
I thought I was alone in my like-addiction! I have occasionally thought briefly of writing some like-bait when my likes dwindle but I haven't done so yet!
