excellent site Froggylegs! sent it to many friends (even though I and my friends know who we'll be voting for already). Question with all these politicians is, Can you trust them to stick to their positions and implement what they say they believe in? A lot of the problem is compromise.

And then you realize that there are no politicians who stick to their positions and implement what they say they believe in. Not in this day and age. In this election, between Bush and Kerry, it really is a case of voting for the lesser of two evils. It's up to you to decide who that is, but they're both pretty dreadful.

As for making up your mind on it, ignore the ads as they're pointless emotionalism a lot of the time, and they're only going to get nastier as time goes on. Try to ignore any threatened scandals or character assassinations from either side, it's just more dirty pool. Instead, go to the websites of both candidates and spend some time reading over their position statements. Get away from the noisy foolishness of the political campaign and just read what they'd do in an ideal world. See if that helps.

I use to be politically active when I was a young woman.Unfortunately, all my candidates turned out to be "crooks" After getting burned too many times I decided I had had "enough". Yes I will try to take some time and find out more information. There are so many important issues but I really do want to support our troops. I guess I'm a "single issue" voter.

Sometimes I am disillusioned by politicians as well, but have decided they are a necessary evil.

I vote for the candidate who most closely matches my own belief system and try to look at a broad range of issues rather than a few that might personally impact me.

Someone who is not sure who to vote for should start by reading political platforms to see where they fall in beliefs...each candidate will follow party line in many instances when push comes to shove. In other words even you liked Clinton as a person, if you have conservative beliefs you aren't likely to care for his decisions in office as they will follow the liberal Democratic idea of how to get things accomplished and what is important.

To the OP: try not to listen to propoganda is my advice...there is a lot of it out there.

Then again, I'm not sure I want Bush to turn his attention homeward......everytime he does, we get things like the overtime bill, or the mess with Medicare, or more ridiculous hoops to jump through at the airport. :stone

I really don't quite see what the big thing is on this.. Why do we seem to think that to have love for our country we must blindly embrace any war the sitting administration should choose to embark on? Kerry apparently became very disillusioned by this war.. he was there, he experienced it, and he understood it on a level that only other Vietnam vets will ever understand. Perhaps he felt disgusted at the fact that he was being rewarded for atrocities he would rather not have been forced to commit? To each his own, dissent is the highest form of patriotism after all.. we shouldn't be so quick to root for blind nationalism. Always question, question, question.

Not the one who came back after getting his medals and threw them away, saying he and others in the military committed atrocities.... he insulted Vietnam military personnel. Not the one who has not served his constituents by being there to vote for issues...EXCEPT against Partial Birth Abortion (which we ALL know is NOT EVER done to save the life of a mom if we are honest.... slowly inducing labor when a C-Section is KNOWN to be the choice if things go sour. OH, but that could save BOTH Mother AND baby, right? Duh... )
No, I don't think standing on his medals warrants a single vote for him. Even he did not value them... or did he? Did he really toss em, give em back, or did he toss someone else's and save his own while saying....

Many of the Nam Vets he served with have been objecting to his using group pictures of those he served with because of the things he had said about what they did, etc, which they say did not take place, and they are speaking out about it. The original question was, "Which candidate do you think will help our military men and women the most?"

Thanks for the clarification. At this point, with regard to the concept of honesty and which administration would be better for our troops however, I have far more questions about Bush's agenda for Iraq than I do about Kerry's medals for bravery.

If Kerry tossed somebody else's medals they were GIVEN to him by another combat Vet to toss.

I, like Mr. Kerry, saw the folly of a war for hearts and minds up close and personal. I was at first OUTRAGED when blanket amnesty was given to Viet Nam draft dodgers. After thinking about it, I realized that Martin Luther King, Muhammed Ali, and Jane Fonda were correct. John Kerry gave testimony to the US Congress that, "How can you ask a man to be the last to die in a war that we know is wrong?"

Which lie is most reprehensible, tossing somebody else's medals, saying, "I never had sex with that woman", or the plethora of lies that we were told to invade Iraq?

While I do not believe Kerry's solutions are better than Junior's, it's hard to see how they could be much worse. My biggest nightmare is that Kerry gets elected, gets his friends back into congress and they adopt the same "public be damned" attitude of the incumbents.

The closer you look at government the uglier it looks.

I think the best survival strategy is to view politics as pure entertainment. I do resent the MILLIONS spent for the flatulent nonsense "messages" they send us.

I always vote, but each time it becomes harder. It's like using the WC--hold your nose and pull the chain! :rotfl:

You can find a group of people to support or protest any position. As much respect as I have for all veterans, and the opinions of some of them about an event that happened ages ago really has no bearing on the question you reiterated.

"Which candidate do you think will help our military men and women the most?" What do you mean by "help"? Getting them home as quickly as possible and not committing them to more poorly planned wars? Sending them the armor and intelligence they need? Giving them more pay? Ensuring that those who come home are not cast aside as so many veterans of the Vietnam conflict were?
