Quirky Habits?

I have this terrible habit which I can't quit. It's terrible but yet I waste time on it. I split my split ends. Help!!! What are your bad and yet so entertaining habits?

I changed the title of this thread from, "Bad Habits," to "Quirky Habits." A few of the things mentioned could cause problems, but most are just little oddities that make us the interesting individuals we are. :D

when changing the tv volume, i don't like it to be on a prime number. odd numbers are okay. just not primes. same way for the temperature selection in my car.

i like it when things add up to nine.

do you have a half price books near you?

half price books, records, magazines, inc.

i love this place! my family knows i welcome gift cards from hpb for any occasion. one of my favorite things to do is go to the clearance section where the prices are $1-$3. i've scored some wonderful items that were big bucks to begin with.

sharpeimom] i have books i'm in the middle of reading stashed all over the place: in my purse, in the car, by my recliner, on my nightstand, by each tub or john, in the kitchen under a pillow on the windowseat, in the [/size]

living room, outside by the hot tub, on the front porch ... i'm hopeless, i think.

yeah, that's me, too. i have my bedroom book, my upstairs bathroom book, my downstairs bathroom book, my car book, my workbag book, etc. people ask my how i can read so many at one time without scrambling my brain. i tell them it was scrambled a long time ago, so there's nothing more to worry about there.

half price books is awesome! i also love amazon, although it's way too easy for me to spend a ton of money in a really short period of time.

speaking of bathroom books - how often have you compulsive readers dropped a book in the tub? i have many old books that bear the wrinkled pages of accidental baths!

oh, and @island40: i can't speak for scoochy, but i've survived many a bitter, howling great lakes/midwestern winter with windows cracked to cool me! when mother nature throws cold at me, i'm happy to accept. ;)

Weird habits...quirks....okay.

I don't like my food to touch. I have very distinct rules about food. Things that will run into each other that are not meant to run into each other require either a divided plate (yes, I own one - makes me about, oh, I don't know - SEVEN?) or a separate bowl. (Like the gravy on the potatoes CANNOT touch the broccoli. Uh-uh. No go.) When I'm in a restaurant, I either order carefully or ask for an extra knife, which I prop beneath the plate at an angle to keep the food from running together.

There are two exceptions to the rule: Christmas and Thanksgiving. That's it.

My closet - I'm a serious clothes horse - is organized by color. Including my shoes.

I just asked my DH for ideas and apparently they're the two that really get on his nerves. Don't know why the closet bothers him. I do fold tee shirts and underwear a certain way (oh - and I just remembered - towels are folded longwise and then over on themselves to form an "e" from the side) but that's all the Air Force's fault.

Thought of another one - whenever I get gas, the total has to end in either .00 or .50. If it doesn't, it annoys me.

Thanks for making me feel less alone in the world.

Here is one of my many "quirks" - I have to stand and look at the door to make sure it is really closed before I leave... Usually for at least 15-30 seconds. If I don't, the anxiety sets in almost immediately and I have to walk back up to the house and look. Fortunately, I usually leave for work very very early - who knows what the neighbors must think?

Our study groups for psych were sometimes funny, sometimes sad as we all realized we had problems...

Are you my daughter?!!?!! Drives me insane when she does this. We have hard wood floors and puddles of water sitting on them really isn't good...

I don't think so but it is possible b/c my mom is a nurse (I don't think she is on allnurses though)! :)

People usually do not like this habit of mine. One time, a friend of mine slipped when we were sharing a bathroom on a trip. I felt really bad (she wasn't injured, thank G). Since then, I've always made sure to clean up the puddles when others are sharing the bathroom with me.

p.s. I'm the same way with dishes, dish racks>towel drying

I have to clean my purse/work bag every night before I go to sleep. Can not sleep if it is not in perfect order. All change goes into a change jar. $1's go into a separate bag. If I'm working then the same goes for my work bag. Everything has it's place. Wierd.

I do my laundry every thursday. Hate to do it any other day.

I have to sit in the same seat of the sofa and the same seat at the dining table evertime, if I try and sit in a different spot I don't feel right.

I always park in one of two rows in Walmarts parking lot, even if I end having to park far away.

When driving someplace I go to often, such as the grocery store or relatives house, I have to go the same direction everytime, even if there are more efficient ways of getting there.

I rub the side of my nose when I am feeling nervous or anxious, which often happens in social situations.

When I sleep, I always have to have one foot sticking out from the blankets, only one, not both. And I have to have socks on when I go to bed, in spite of the fact that at some point during the night I will end up removing them.

I only like cheese when it is melted, once it cools and solidifies, yuck! And it has to be real cheese, not that fake nacho cheese sauce stuff.

I pick apart my food, which drives my hubby crazy. Like with reeses peanut butter cups, I will pick off all the chocolate first and eat it and then the peanut butter part, or I will peel of the chocolate frosting of an eclair, and then eat the pudding center and eat the pastry part last. I like all the parts separate, but together I feel like I am missing something.

My gas tank will not ever be under a quarter tank!

Me too! I always worry I will run out of gas if I get below a quarter of a tank.

Me too! I always worry I will run out of gas if I get below a quarter of a tank.

I have the opposite problem, I refuse to fill my tank until it is a hair above empty. I force myself to fill it at a quarter in the winter, but it feels really really wrong, because I keep thinking I don't NEED it yet.....

I trap passengers in my car.

As soon as I open the driver's side door to get out of the car, I immediately hit the lock for all doors. I started doing it so that I wouldn't forget. Now, the muscle memory is so strong I couldn't NOT do it if I tried. So if you're riding with me, and you want to get out, you'd better be fast! :lol2:

these are great! now i don't feel like a lonely weirdo anymore; we're all weirdos together! ;)

let's see....

1. i cannot go anywhere without something to read. when i say anywhere, i mean literally anywhere. i can't go from one room to another for any reason without a book or magazine. i could be going to the kitchen to make dinner, heading to the bathroom to clean it, whatever - there has to be something to read at hand or i go insane (well, more insane).

books: don't leave home without 'em!

seriously, i have to have a book within arm's reach at all times. i buy extra large purses because books seem to spawn in them!

no way scoochy would make it through an iowa winter! -40 would cure you of the open window part if not the fan!!

i don't know about iowa winters, but i've made it through wisconsin winters (-37 degrees) with the window open and the fan going and still kicked all the covers off the bed because i'm hot!
