Quick Question About A&p

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

I just started my pre-reqs for nursing. In fact, this is my first semester all I have completed is English 101.

I work full time and it is really hard for me to take alot of classes - so I have decided to do 2 at a time (I know it is going to take forever.

I was planning on taking A&P I next semester.

Should I take it with Psychology 101, or with Math?

Which would be least difficult?

I want to get As in both classes.

For my prereqs I used www.ratemyprofessor.com it was a huge help! I can tell you from experience that the instructor makes the class. While some people spent hours and hours doing math lab and homework, my teacher only gave us quizzes and tests, all of which were announced and he reviewed us for in advance. I'm pretty good at math, but statistics was different for me, you have to change your whole concept of math, as in just because it says its 12 doesn't mean it really is.....kinda weird stuff. My psychology class was pretty easy too, like I said, it's all in your instructor!

Yeah...unfortunately Durham Tech., here in NC, doesn't list the prof. when they list the class...I think this is probably a deliberate thing, although I've never been to a school before that does this.

I'm pretty sure the students enter the names of the prof. If there are no teachers listed from a certain dept at your school, you should be able to add them and then watch as the comments start to snowball from there... LOL.

No...I mean when you actually REGISTER for the class, you don't know what teacher you are registering with.

It's like that with a lot of class sections at my school as well! It's really annoying. Being able to look people up on Rate my professor is such a help.

I could tell you from my own experience with Psychology...it was FULL of definition terms. It was interesting but yes it was also a lot of studying with flash cards learning my definitions. To tell you the truth, I don't feel like I got a whole lot out of the class because it was focused on mainly that. A&P1 is a lot of studying of muscles, bones and functions of them. A&P11, I find is much more difficult, learning the different organs, functions, hormones, etc, and what causes what to rise and fall do to something else, and so on. I'll be finished this class in 1 week..hoooray, but let me tell you, it was my focus class. Our instructor is not easy and says she tests us in a way to better prepare us for nursing school with her critical thinking questions. Her tests have questions like what causes the different colors in bruises? Well, to answer this you have to know how the blood breaks down and the heme portion of the blood loses iron which then causes variations of color. This was not discussed, but if you know the material and how everything works you'll can answer the choices given by mentally figuring out the process. The other choices sound good too when tyring to figure it out, but of course, there's only one right answer. She's tough! We have to know the inner physiology to what's going on to cause something else to occur. Our class average for 3 exams so far has not gone over 71% so that should tell you a little about her testing which is always 50 multiple choices. We've lost about a quarter of our class throughout the semester. Lab was pretty easy because it's mainly identifying. My algebra came 2nd priority for and my fine arts became 3rd priority. I just HOPE to get a B in my A&P11 and be done with it, but I have to tell you I've learned a lot in this class. I just wish this class was broken up into 2 semsters so we can take more time to ask questions instead of rushing throught it all. It's a lot to learn in 3 months, 2 days a week, an hour and 15 minutes each.

Good luck with your decision. Taking things slow is not a bad choice and will reflect great grades! ;)

Not sure what the requirements your school is demanding of you, or if you are good in math, but I would take anatomy with an easy class like English or Psychology. Especially if you are bucking for the A. Usually, there is lecture (physiology) and a lab (anatomy). Most people have a hard time with the lecture classes because this is new to them, and it depends on your instructor. Good luck!

I decided to go with A&P1 and English 102.
