Questions about Seton Versant RN Residency in Austin

Published

I have just been accepted into the Seton RN residency and can answer any questions you may have. I will also be creating a post throughout my experience in the residency. Ask away!

i believe all positions are already filled. I was tolled by a recruiter that if i did not hear anything by Aug. 29th that the positions were filled. I would suggest requesting your application to be placed int the January cohort in hopes that you get that one.

I was told not very long ago that only a few positions had been filled. I was never told about the Aug 29t date. But I am applying other places too

Hi rnegr,

To answer your question: no Seton does not require you to sign a contract, which is definitely a plus. And for everyone else, keep applying and keep your options open. Don't settle on just one hospital. If you keep your options open, someone HAS to hire you, right? Lol.

I've been enjoying the Versant program so far but I am having trouble with my preceptor. She is becoming too hovery and too controlling. The worst part is that she feels its totally ok to call me out or highlight a mistake I made in front of patient's family members, doctors, or anybody else who happens to be in the unit. And that is something I CANNOT deal with. So at first I was going to just tough it out until the orientation was over but once she started doing that I realized that I need to get a new preceptor. So I will be requesting one today and I will let you guys know how it turns out. Bad thing is I have to work with her again on Sunday so hopefully I can get a new one before then. We'll see.

I'll keep you posted. Thanks to everyone for posting to this thread.

I wish the best for you guys who are still looking for jobs.

Hey mday,

Just wanted to let you know that they do give relocation assistance once you are hired. Just call and ask HR about it and they will give you all the details.

Just wanted to let you all know that I was offered a spot in the Seton Select program early last week. Sorry for the delay! I don't have any other details, but am very excited!

Good luck to those looking! Hope everyone is having a great Labor Day weekend!

Hi Kimmy088,

Congratulation!

Did you get an offer right after your interview? or Did they offer you over the phone? Did HR contact you yet? Is this your first time apply to Seton Versant RN program?

Thanks

So like i said in the last post, I have a problem with my current preceptor. She is very hovery and speaks to me like an idiot in front of parents and other staff members. So i decided to bring it up to the educators on the unit and my manager in order to get a new preceptor. And guess what? I got a new preceptor thank god!

So I say that to say if any of you ever have any problems with any of your preceptors, please do not hesitate to speak to someone about it. My time on the unit is MUCH more enjoyable now that I have switched. Not that my preceptor was bad before, her teaching style was just different from my learning style.I dont want to be treated like a student when I have worked hard and earned my license. Its very important that even though we are new, we are treated like professionals. I wish I would have said something earlier. Its not worth being miserable every day at work. Speak up for yourself guys. Please comment if any of you have had any similar experiences.

Till next time.

I applied for the February Cohort. My "application" has been accepted, and I got directions and instructions in the email on what I needed to do. I graduate in December, so for all the other graduates who had questions, I'm not really sure as to why you don't think you could start in February. That's ample time to have your GN, and your ATT, and test I'm sure. I currently live in Dallas, so I'm a little uneasy about moving with my son, but God will direct me where he wants to go, my options are open. Good luck to everyone. :)

I went to the recruiting event July 19th. Got two interviews the next day and was offered a job the next day. On my interview they were only allowed to accept a few and had hand full of interviews plus the next round of recruitment. I think it would be smart to go to the event knowing exactly what you want to do and speak with them first and if you are passionate about what you want and not another nursing student trying to find a job then it will shine through. There are literally hundreds of new grads and rns with little experience wanting the same job you do so stand out. I walked out thinking there is absolutely no way I will ever get a job and almost drove the 9 hour drive home but needless to say I must've made an impression and got a amazing job. I can't wait to start in a few weeks and Austin is Amazing

hello guys, just got an e-mail from Seton that my application for the residency has been approved... Just wondering what to expect... :( I really hope to join Seton.. I check this morning and it says on my status that it has been applied... I was wondering how long it took for you guys to hear from them? and what preparations you guys have done in connection with your application...by the way I am applying for The February cohort.. Hope to hear from you guys...

@Sunrise, I got the same email about 2 days ago. Did yours give you a list of instructions too. I applied and I want to check the status, but my username is apparently wrong... I don't know. I'm applying to the Feb cohort as well. What are your choices. I originally just chose ER, but I branched out to Critical care now.
