I didn't post this to argue the rightness or wrongness of the issue.
I didn't post it to debate civil rights.
Public schools are now mandated to allow students to use restrooms that reflect their gender identity.
I wanted to know if school nurses are going to be affected by the new policy.
How do they think their students will react. Do they think it will cause problems with kids.
Parents and administrators are a whole different issue.
What do school nurses think is going to happen?
1 in 2,400 of the US population equals approximately 135,000 individuals.
Out of approximately 320 million Americans. So yes, small numbers.
"Are the sources really lying as you claim?"
My only claim is that there are people who (hopefully it is unintentional) will make statement such as "you've been in a ________ (shower, bathroom, locker room) through your life time and didn't know it. Given the 1 in 2,400 Americans (where this is not equally spread out either) believe themselves to be born in the wrong body/sexy, then the odds of being in a _______ (shower, bathroom, locker room) is extremely low as opposed to common place.
"I'm not sure what point you're attempting to argue here?"
That there's a bigger picture at play than making 1 in 2,400 people more comfortable going to the ____ (shower, bathroom, locker room) of their choice based on what sex they believe they are in spite of their DNA.
"Are you saying that sex offenders will start hormone therapy or have surgery to look more like the opposite sex"
No, I'm stating that offenders will take any opportunity given to commit offense. No gun zones invite criminals with guns; and making _____ (locker room, bathroom, showers) open to anyone who claims they are born into the wrong sex/body opens up the door for those who will lie about it in order to commit their crime.
"The thing is.. Sexual predators/rapists are perfectly capable of sneaking into the restroom of the opposite sex as it is. It has happened more than once."
I agree with you; yet, why make it easier for them to do so in order to make 1 in 2,400 Americans who have a belief system (that's all that it is as they cannot literally change their sex -- best is cosmetic surgery that still doesn't change their DNA) they are in the wrong body/sex more comfortable with a _____ (shower, locker room, bathroom) choice? What about those who are neither transgender or offender who value their privacy?
So, your concern is a 16 year old cisgenger male pretending to be TG so he can get into the girl's bathroom?
Bam. With all due respect, you are not male. A teenage boy, given today's social acceptance of trans and LGBT issues will not hesitate to use this as a way to get into the girl's LOCKER ROOM. This is where he can enjoy the sights. Have you noticed that the ones here who think it will be abused are men, we know how we think. I wouldn't put myself past doing this if I were a teenager now. Sorry, but women are naive to think their daughters are safe in a locker room.
IMHO this entire issue is much ado about nothing. Our national conversation seems to center around one manufactured controversy after the next. I suspect that a year or so from now, we will all be making impassioned arguments about some new national concern that doesn't really affect peoples lives, while all of the fears and concerns regarding who is allowed to use which bathroom will be long forgotten.

Bam yourself. I have 2 teenage boys and a brother. I know how men are.
No man I know would pretend they were TG to get into a girls' locker room.

Hi. Male here. I think this is a ridiculous concern. Kids are not going to open themselves up to the scrutiny (and harassment) of their peers by openly identifying as transgender in order to change in the girl's locker room. Teens are self-conscious by nature (it's why they're so concerned with dressing like their friends). Expressing your gender identity isn't something one only does during gym class. It's an all day everyday thing; it's an expression of what a person is. Kids aren't going to choose to live like that unless it's who they are. Believing they will is simply buying into fear that has no rational basis.
Why can't we just call that "normal", does anyone else see the lunacy in all this?
Because for people with certain endocrine disorders, their "normal" is not your "normal". Do you call disabled people "abnormal" and able bodied people "normal" or is your sense of "normal" only in relation to transgender people?
Why not?Trouble, I think you are looking for trouble where there is none.
The schools will be fine. We already look our for our kids.[/quote
That's the answer I wanted.
I'm not looking for trouble, but if I were, I wouldn't have to look far. This is the biggest, most absurd mess I've seen in a long time.

And also, I'm really kind of insulted you are pulling "the man card" on me. And a little hurt.
This is not about that. It's about kids in school having a safe place to pee!!

Cisgendered means the opposite of transgendered.
In other words, people who identify with the gender they drew at conception.
