You know what I mean. . .a patient having someone of the opposite sex (or the same sex! that's happened too) that they are romantically involved with, spend the night (thankfully in a private room) and performing overt sex acts, to the horror of the poor CNA who has to come in and fix her tele leads, which have obviously come loose from all the activity.
I was horrified to know that not only does my hospital not have a policy against this, but the house supervisor told me I was not allowed to tell them to stop! These are sick people here! I understand people say they have "physical needs," but can we draw a line somewhere?!

Reattach the leads and let them have their "therapeutic" time; as long as safety measures are in place, it's pretty much all good.

I would do my job and leave. If they are consenting adults, it isnt my business.

Even worse when it's parents or other family members while visiting a sick kid in a children's hospital.
We just call security.
I can imagine it's a bit different when its a consenting adult patient NOT in a children's hospital.
Just seems wrong either way.

Ew. It's like having sex in a public bathroom. Just gross.

Maybe inappropriate, but calling them "sick people" is way overreacting and extremely judgmental.

I don't think the poster meant sick as in sick in the head but as in illness sick- they usually don't admit you to a room and put a telemetry monitor on for the heck of it. Though I've known an ER doc or two that admits everything that walks through the doors!

KNOCK on the door and WAIT for a reply before entering. You would think people in the hospital would be MUCH too ill to get up to such shenanigans however we have seen and heard it all.

You know what? I may be old fashioned, but I think it is another sign that visiting policies, and society, have become way too lax. In a word, it's disrespectful and, actually, ridiculous.
And people wag their fingers at that bad, judgmental nurse for feeling like it's not right, and maybe there should be policies forbidding it?
How low have we sunk? And, how much more garbage are we nurses supposed to put up with until we say "Enough is enough!"?

It's not a dirty thing... In your own house.. Do what you want to do..
But don't make other people uncomfortable because of your lifestyle.
