Hello! :)
Would it be a good idea to work PRN at two different hospitals while in nursing school (as a unit clerk, tech, CNA, intern/extern, etc...)? Have any of you done it? How did it work with your school schedule? Would you recommend it?
I was thinking it might be a good way for me to get my foot in the door at two hospitals, plus getting different types of clinical experience. But I don't want to overload myself as I still want to do well in nursing school....
Thanks!

I worked per diem at one hospital but picked up enough shifts on nights as if I were full time. I did three night shifts and then school full time. It's doable. It helps.
If I did not have that job while in school I would not have received an email after graduation from a nurse manager asking me if I was interested in working their floor as an RN.
My position then was "per diem corporate" I was a clin tech and floated to all/any units that needed me. Some nights I was simply a sitter. Some nights I was floated to the pediatric or woman/baby hospital. I saw med surg pcu stepdown and icu. It was a wealth of experience and definitely worth it in my opinion.

It's definitely doable if you get a job as a student nurse as those mostly require 2 shifts per month.
Thank you for your replies! :)
Just to clarify, I already work as a PRN float tech at one hospital, and I'm wondering if it's a good idea (or not) to have a second PRN job at another hospital while in nursing school....would it be too much??

I currently work per diem at 2 hospitals-- I've been a CNA at one for the past 3 years and I just started as a Nurse Extern at the other. I think its a good idea only because I know upon graduation I internally have options. Granted, I know nursing positions aren't guaranteed, however at least I'll have 2 places that I will have a good chance of getting employed as a new RN.

I think it is an excellent idea. I have always worked at more than 1 facility and the variety of experiences as well as professional contacts have been invaluable. Good luck!
