Private Office Pay for RN's

I recently accepted a job in a private physician's office (Pediatrics), and will be leaving hospital nursing (which I have done for four years). I understood that there would be a cut in pay, but I was wondering if anyone out there has done the same? What was your pay cut? Do you enjoy the work better than in the hospital? What do offices normally pay RN's?

Any information would be greatly appreciated!

That is true....

I work for a Plastic Surgeon.....he does alot of cosmetic surgery, BEILIEVE ME, he makes BIG BUCKS

Even with the big money rolling into this office...the doctor still cries ,he is not making enough $

Give me a break....

I love working for a PS....I am a LPN working on Long Island...

You will learn a whole new way of nursing...you will be learning alot .

I knew NOTHING in this field of plastic surgery.....I learned everything working on the job.

It is good to know there is help for me out there.Right now I,m trying to update my resume but Iam stock in the "OBJECTIVES" part.I'm not sure what to write since I really was not looking for a job, it was just an offer I was made that really sounded great so I can go back to school for my msn and maybe ,who knows have my second baby which I find so hard to do while working nights in the hospital.Any suggestions please!!:imbar

I’m an office nurse and have been for 9 years. I worked as a medical assistant for 6 years before school in a family practice group. I joined an orthopedic practice right out of school and have been with them since. I have been with this particular surgeon in the office for 3 years now. In order to make decent money in an office setting you must be in a specialty practice or even a subspecialty practice. The physician has to make good money to pay you good money. Also, you need to work for a physician who really appreciates what a nurse can bring to them and their patients that a medical assistant cannot. I work for a surgeon who wants to see patients in the office, perform surgery and let me handle the rest. He has been in practice long enough to know what I do and what he did before he had me. That translates into $$ and respect for me.

If you know you have the job, why don't you know how much you are making? I have known of pay cuts of up to ten dollars an hour, depends on speciality and how much the doctor is willing to pay. Benefits aren't usually very good either. Good Luck!!

I regret making the switch. I'm afraid that I'm letting my acute care skills become weaker and weaker, and I'm bored. There is no adrenaline rush going on in the clinic. I'm going back to the hospital.

I took a $1.50 an hour pay cut from the hospital to the clinic...but, I have weekends and evenings off, I have holidays off, I get an hour for lunch, and I've had two awesome lunches provided by drug reps since I started last week. It's worth it. I also never really dealt with the same patient for 12 hours very well...I get bored easily, so I really like the fast pace in the clinic. I miss the tubes and vents and the people I worked with, but I am really liking what I do now...the people I work with are awesome, the providers are wonderful, and its just nice. :)

I make exactly the same as a hospital nurse while working at an outpatient clinic/MD office, but that's because my office is part of the hospital system (Kaiser) and I am betting it's against the union to pay us less. :p

depends on where you work and what kind of office. I work in an office in Evanston Illinois and took a $3 an hour paycut. I do figure in though that I get lunch provided twice a week from drug reps. Also we are a speciality office and the docs give us bonuses when they get them. I have gotton about $800 in bonuses and have been there 9 months. I went from hospital pay of $23/h an hour to office of $20/h. I like the clinic better than the hospital, but no job is perfect. I sometimes miss the hospital enviroment.

Annor, what type of proceedures to you do there? I'm curious since I'm a LPN for an Endocrinologist only making 10.50/hr with not much increase in site. Is it where you live that determines your pay or do you work for doc that can afford to pay that much?

Just got a NICE raise to $25.00/hour....and that is LPN!:yeah: :yeah: :yeah: :yeah:

Great job....I live on Long Island, NY the cost of living here is really getting out of control. Plastic Surgeons make good money for the cosmetic procedures. Cosmetic corrections do not go through medical insurance.

We do everything a plastic surgeon would do ,such as...all cosmetic....some in the office, most in hospital setting....plus,reconstruction for breast cancer pt's,

and excisons for skin cancers and of course, botox and restylane and fat injections

I am his office nurse...I do not go to the hospital with the doc.
