I'm not how a test that takes at least 12 hours to result would be better if done "before each shift".  The other issue is that studies have found that the peak of transmissibility occurs just prior to symptom onset, and yet testing doesn't typically show as positive until just after symptom onset.  Even daily testing is of limited use in preventing transmission and weekly testing has very limited benefit.

Rapid testing doesn't take 12 hrs. Despite it not being 100% accurate as they relate to being symptomatic,  it's far better than waiting a whole week for any results. As someone who's been very gung-ho about preventing the spread of COVID why have a beef with frequent testing?

I don't know of anyone at a local or national level who is using rapid covid tests as an acceptable test when testing is required.  Not even the airlines that are going on their own to require tests for domestic flights are accepting rapid tests.

Between the rapid covid tests and required vaccination, vaccination is still statistically the best way to prevent transmission.

Thats not a fair assessment considering how lackluster a job we did with testing.  Initially it was restricted to those who had symptoms and denied to the asymptomatic,  who really needed the test most of all so they could sit down and quarantine rather than have no reason to believe COVID is within them and spread it.

I'm really shocked you have an argument of any kind against frequent testing. That's like arguing against the power of quarantining.

My current employer is a global corporation and we do rapid testing exclusively with a very rare exception when indicated.

I have family members who are tested weekly if not more often for their jobs in education and national defense. They don’t mind at all.

Change from q 2day COVID testing to weekly post immunization for my chef son working for pro soccer team per Major League Soccer COVID requirements. He also wears a mask while cooking and on game day with teams onsite, changes to N95 mask for the day.

Been COVID free all year AND  works 12 -15+hr shifts, hasn't had issue with mask wearing unless outside temps high 90's.

I am actually curious to see how this will affect those in the anti-vax camp. How many of them will change their minds about getting it when their jobs are on the line? How many will stick to their convictions and still refuse to vaccinate even if it means losing their job?

It's a sociology experiment. Will people stick with an ideology even when holding that ideology negatively impacts them in very personal ways.

They don't have to get the shot, it is either the shot or weekly testing. There are still given a choice.

That's exactly correct...they get to choose.  They are not victims they are choosing not to vaccinate because they prefer the alternatives to vaccination.
