Wow. No one has started such a thread yet?
After promising that most K-8 students would be in schools in the first 100 days, apparently Joe is afraid to lead on this and has drastically scaled back that goal.
Instead, we're shooting for about half to go to school at least one day a week, by the end of April.
Tweety said:So "Dems in freak out mode" on the TV at the gym intrigued ne, but not enough to listen. Apparently it's about Biden's going to lose to Trump from what I could tell on closed caption. Before they had been mocking washed up actor Robert DeNiro who made and anti Trump speech that is going viral. (The washed up actor that just this year got an Academy Award nomination last year, who is well known to dislike Trump).
Or did Biden do something today?
Di Niro appeared at a Biden campaign event outside the Trump trial.
If Dems are freaking out, probably because they realized the stunt reeked of desperation.

Did it reek of desperation like republican politicians attending the courtroom case dressed in lookalike blue suits and red ties reeks of desperation? They are so desperate for Trump's favor they play dress up on national television rather than doing their actual jobs? Is that considered "stunt" level desperation? Maybe it's just another standard in the era of Trump.

Personally, I found his speech a bit over the top. Republicans and Fox News have long disdained "the Hollywood Elite" so I can understand the mocking, but I don't see Dems freaking out over De Niro, In fact in much of the social media I see, and among my friends, he's getting praise and positive attention. Dems love when Trump gets criticized and wouldn't go into freak out mode over it, unless it's something like holding a bloody head effigy.
The "Dems in full-blown freak out over Biden" seemed to be about something else as they moved on past their mocking of De Niro.
But, I did find an article on Politico titled the same thing "Dems in full-blow "freakout" over Biden", so maybe they were talking about that.
QuoteA pervasive sense of fear has settled in at the highest levels of the Democratic Party over President Joe Biden's reelection prospects, even among officeholders and strategists who had previously expressed confidence about the coming battle with Donald Trump.

Nice deflection.

Democrats are pretty alarmed that the Republicans would nominate the fellow who wants to end our constitution.
I don't consider my question about desperation to be a deflection. I acknowledged the sentiment and contrasted it to other behavior. Do you find one set of behaviors to reek of desperation but not the other? That's not deflection. I'm willing to talk about what an act of desperation looks like but that requires contrast and not just acceptance of an opinion.
A deflection would be like responding to the notion that democrats are desperate at the trial because of the DeNiro appearance and I said something like..."well, Republicans are just jealous that a film star would do this for Biden". It would be a deflection if you said a thing about Biden lying and I said "why would you care" given that you support Trump. I do that quite a bit to remind people that they aren't concerned with things like lying or cheating or fraud when they support Trump so why would they be concerned when others are accused of similar?
In this instance, the "appearance of desperation" is purely an exercise in partisan rhetorical expression. It's an opinion, not a fact. Comparing behavior for that partisan assessment is not the response he wanted but it is fully responsive to his suggestion that DeNiro projects desperation while ignoring the appearance of desperation from the dress up team of legislators and VP contenders who have attended for many days. The bottom line is that it's OK that he thinks that democrats appear desperate outside Trump's trial. It's also OK for that belief to be confronted with the appearance of desperation from republicans for discussion.
Here's the difference in the appearance of desperation. One group is desperate to impress the guy on trial with their presence and with their willingness to dress up to visually show their support. That group appears desperate because they have personal political ambitions that are at the mercy and whims of the fickle and feckless former president. The DeNiro appearance of desperation is representative of the anxiety that accompanies the Trumpian threat to our republic.
It seems to me that the right wing desperation might be selfishly focused and the left wing desperation might be more altruistic. The difference in the nature of the desperation is worth fleshing out, unless we just want to limit all comments to shallow "click bait" remarks with no contrast or context teased out in difficult and uncomfortable dialog.
I believe that most of the current criticisms of Biden from right wing media are shallow and riddled with misrepresentations and feelings rather than facts. In contrast, the criticisms of Trump are based primarily based in fact with the concern about the future of our democracy bringing the feelings. We can talk about that.

Didn't the "distinguished " ladies of congress all dress in white for Trump's State of the Union?
Another double standard indeed.

Come on, you do not sense any urgency or nervousness from democrats and left media?
They are in full "Trump is Hitler" and if you vote for him, so are ypu mode. LOL.
Crusades said:Shush 🤫. That's the whole plan. They hope my insinuating that because some unsavory groups, may or may not support Trump then he is guilty of the sins of these groups.
So, if someone votes for Trump, then they are guilty of Trump's sins and anyone who votes for him sins.
It's really all they have left. A desperate attempt. Didn't work in 2016, kinda worked in 2020 and considering Trump's ratings, does seem to be working in 2024.
Crusades said:What's that have to do with cognition?
Did heard him speak and you're still asking about his cognition? Let's pretend that Trump were a priest - he's STILL mentally incompetent to run any country that I'd want to live in. Didn't you have a psych rotation?

The blue suits and red ties I thought was kinda stupid. So, no argument from me on that.
As for Biden, the WH has been staying away from even talking about the trial, maintaining that there is nothing political about it and it's best to let the legal process run its course.
Now, at the least minute they have a campaign event right outside the courtroom featuring a long-time Trump hater as a speaker. And, I believe they've announced the Biden is going to have remarks from the WH after the verdict.
It seems they're going all in I making it political, realizing they need it to have a chance at winning.
Desperation.

I misread your comment. I thought that you said they were freaking out.

No, they probably didn't have a psych rotation. They can't differentiate normal aging from mental illness from a progressive dementia. They simply repeat flat right wing rhetoric hoping that we identify with Biden in the same way the cult identifies with Trump.
