Wow. No one has started such a thread yet?
After promising that most K-8 students would be in schools in the first 100 days, apparently Joe is afraid to lead on this and has drastically scaled back that goal.
Instead, we're shooting for about half to go to school at least one day a week, by the end of April.
Beerman said:While I do believe a "Transgender Day of Visibility " is over the top, my issue was with him picking Easter for it.
I failed to realize this wasn't something his administration came up with, and that it already has a established date that coincided with Easter this year.
My mistake.
Fair enough. I see it on my social media every year but don't remember until the day arrives and people post about it. Just like the other day was Vietnam Veterans Day and I don't think about it until it show up. My social media obviously has a lot of gay people and progressives.
I didn't know it was "National Clams on the Half Shell Day" either.
Back to Biden, his statements today obviously like I said he and his advisors knew it was Easter and most likely knew "Christians" would be triggered. Obviously it's a publicity stunt in a political election year, however, I appreciate the sentiment behind it. In a time when an instagram meme calls a murdered transgendered woman "a man in a wig", when people are generally just unkind, I think visibility and a President that supports such visibility and accepts the humanity of people is important.
Beerman said:I wonder if this was purposeful over-the-top wokeness, or if he is just an idiot.
Why is this even an issue for MAGA's? These people and their families suffer enough. Why is it so important to add to their burden? Yes, I might have an issue if the situation were as Fox presents this issue but they mostly lie about surgery being done on minors. Biden isn't the idiot.....Trump is the idiot and is becoming scarier every day. Biden can pick Afghanistan on a map. Trump doesn't care where it is. But damn, the meaness of MAGA's is dispirited and we have so many other things to take care of. Our crumbling infrastructure for one. No one cares about the rara avis we call transgendering.

Says who? ACLU tracked over 500 anti-LBGT bills in the USA just last year. It's a huge issue that triggers a lot of people unfortunately to violence.
While it may be the rara avis, transgender deaths are on the rise.
I feel for the kids that might be transgendered hearing from the highest politicians and pulpits that they are "horrendous" and their existence and visibility is "blasphemous"
I know what that feels like. It's a lonely feeling for a kid to be bullied into thinking they are an abomination. It's no wonder there's so much drug addiction, suicide and maladjustment. It's a wonder we come out of it so together and joining caring professions like nursing and social work.
Okay. I'm triggered. Sorry.

You misread. My point was that this is not an issue that is going to switch an election and that Fox is deflecting from issues that most people care the most about. People whi are transgendering are a very tiny part is the population so why does Fox constantly harp on it. I don't think anyone in the world considers these people as something less, than the people on Fox. Consider yourself detriggered. I'm on the side of not generating hate.

According to the Bible, actual Christians shouldn't be easily triggered. The hoopla about Biden's acknowledgment is the political stunt. It's all designed to keep the Trump base agitated.

It triggers lots of people, but those lots are the minority. The minority perspective is driving that boat with that ugly wake of legislative efforts to prove it.
Cruelty is a feature of right wing extremism. The more extremist the views of the legislators and the more extremist the political rhetoric, the more cruel and violent the movement becomes.

I agree with you. This is only an issue because it divides people and inflames social conservatives. Again, the vast majority of the country want their transgendered neighbors and family members treated with respect and dignity. As a society, we are dealing with a loud and unpleasant minority making noise about these things that their media uses to manipulate them. A relatively small percentage of Americans trying to direct the national narrative in a specific way.

When over 500 bills are being considered around the country "no one cares" certainly doesn't ring true to me. People in power do for some reason seem to care. Also influencers seem to be quite comfortable spewing transphobia.
But you're correct in that that the general populace has it low on their priority list of considerations when deciding on who to vote for. But also voters do care. My feeling is that Gen Z that is one of the most gender fluid generation don't appreciate what's going on.
QuoteMore than 50 percent of both registered and likely voters surveyed by the group in January said they would oppose a candidate who "speaks frequently about restricting access to health care and participation in sports for transgender youth.”
That could spell trouble for some Republicans, who have largely embraced anti-trans messaging ahead of November's elections, despite the strategy's minimal success in the 2022 midterms.

It was a political stunt and they knew it would upset Christians and conservatives. I agree. And it worked. The best thing would have been to ignore that.
It doesn't seem he was being sincere, then. So, I'm not sure how one could believe it being a stunt and then say they appreciate the sentiment behind that, and that it is evidence that he accepts the humanity of people.

Biden is a faithful Christian. It's odd that the party of Trump wants to push the narrative that Biden is trying to upset Christians by his Holy Week communication. It's very likely that this weird messaging is an attempt to distract people from the very unchristian tactic of selling Bibles during Holy Week to raise money for a political campaign and legal expenses. There are a couple problems with this right wing narrative.
First, actual Christians aren't easily offended. Republican Christians are offended by lots and lots of things.
Second, Jesus didn't approve of people making money from religion. Jesus over turned their tables and warned that they were turning the temple into a den of thieves. How ironic that a dishonest man like Trump so obviously engaged in exactly that thing while his sycophants point fingers at others. I mean, did you read any of Trump's dozens and dozens of angry and self promoting Easter weekend comments on his social media platform?
Gas lighting and projection might work to convince some people that Biden was the fellow engaged in Easter political stunts but they aren't going to work here. We all pay attention to what is going on and aren't easily fooled by right wing rhetoric.

Of course, it all comes back to Trump. Should have known.

I believe he meant what he said.
I think I've expressed the sentiment before that every move from now on is a political one with an election on mind.. Perhaps "stunt" was the wrong word

It's funny that people that believe in a talking snake, a God that killed a lot of people's first born son's, and man that rose from the dead to save us from a loving God that will send us to burn in hell forever, can get so bent out of shape about things.
