Wow. No one has started such a thread yet?
After promising that most K-8 students would be in schools in the first 100 days, apparently Joe is afraid to lead on this and has drastically scaled back that goal.
Instead, we're shooting for about half to go to school at least one day a week, by the end of April.

I don't know what a "sweetheart deal" means, but people that plead guilty and take responsibility often get pretty good deals. It can be maddening.

'Splain please. Do you mean that sentencing for the charges to which he pled guilty was exceptionally light? Or that more serious charges were dropped as part of the deal? If the latter, what charges were dropped? TIA

No, as I tried to explain before, they likely said this is what you get if you plead guilty to this. As someone who once worked in the judicial system and has been in the courtroom for many criminal precedings, I can assure you he didn't "take responsibility " first hoping he'd then get a good deal.
I have to say that I'm quite surprised that many of you are OK with a rich white guy getting misdemeanor charges for not paying over hundreds ofbthousands in taxes. And, same rich white lied on his gun permit application. That FELONY charge is simply going to go away.
I can only SMH and chuckle.
"Rapper Kodak Black, then 22 years old, was sentenced in 2019 to 46 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to providing an incorrect Social Security number on a federal gun purchase form in order to buy three guns from a Miami-area shop despite a previous criminal record.2 tiers of justice?” the rapper's attorney, Bradford, Cohen wrote in an Instagram post on Tuesday. "Kodak was charged for the same crime. Got over 3 years. Mr. Biden will not serve a day. Feels right?"
"Attorney Robert Barnes, who represented Snipes, tweeted Tuesday: "As a criminal tax lawyer for a near quarter-century, I confirm how rare & extraordinary the #HunterBiden plea deal is. Indeed, the deal violates DOJ Tax official policy, where Biden's DOJ prohibit prosecutors from even offering this deal to people who did far less than Hunter.”
"Jersey Shore" star Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino was sentenced in 2018 to eight months in prison for failing to pay $2.3 million in taxes over five years — roughly the same amount as Hunter Biden reportedly repaid. His older brother, Marc Sorrentino, was sentenced to 24 months for failing to pay $8.9 million. The Sorrentinos pleaded guilty to single counts of tax evasion and preparing a false return, respectively."

I was looking for examples of people plea bargaining and getting worse deals than Biden, but got distracted by the guy that got off for pleading guilty to rape this month. I knew those examples were out there to show Biden got a good deal so I quit looking but thanks for the article.
First of all I never said that I was okay with the deal. I believe the words I used were "it can be maddening". But I accept it and have moved on, and I'm not as outraged as the right. I'm not sure how outraged I would be if it were someone on the right but I don't remember being outraged by the Trump associates pleading guilty and getting light sentences. More of an "it is what it is" kind of attitude.
2nd, while I'm not experienced as you are, I understand what a plea deal and that the prosecutor makes concessions like reducing the charges and lessening or eliminating jail time prior to the person entering or reversing a plea.
I also understand that America favors the rich and powerful and that "no one is above the law" isn't always a true statement. With the better lawyers that money can buy and favoritism towards leniency to white collar criminals they get away with a lot. I'm not okay with that.
Admitting guilt and "taking responsibility" isn't something I'm going to nitpick about. Sometimes it's more of "yeah I'm guilty, let me see what kind deal I get" and there isn't much remorse.
Interestingly, posting about Hunter in a thread about President Biden does not implicate President Biden in the crimes.
President Biden is participating in some meaningful dialog these tumultuous days.

It's not for lack of trying. Not a witch hunt, but they want justice and truth. (sarcasm font). But let them carry on. If there are suspicions and accusations, I want to know the truth too.
QuoteComer released a report last month focused on Hunter Biden and other Biden family members' receipt of more than $1 million from an associate who made a deal with a Chinese energy company — though Republicans didn't draw a direct link to the president, which has been their stated goal.
The Treasury Department also has granted Comer's panel access to so-called suspicious activity reports related to Hunter Biden and associates. But the committee has yet to release any new findings from those activity reports, which are records submitted by banks that don't necessarily indicate wrongdoing.

Wow, a judge letting a violent offender stay at home with mama and daddy. Either the judge is nuts or there is some sort of extenuating circumstance that Fox news is witholding from us because it doesn't fit with their narrative; stories get messy when you spend more than a paragraph or two on them.

Don't remember outrage over Roger Stones unpaid taxes -- overdue 10+ years TOTAL: $1,590,361.89.

Roger Stone's IRS tax troubles highlight a classic rich-person scheme
Quote
According to F. Scott Fitzgerald, the rich are different than you and me. And when it comes to paying taxes, he's absolutely correct. As Internal Revenue Service Commissioner Charles Rettig recently testified before Congress, the IRS may be losing $1 trillion in unpaid taxes every year. And, as a recent working paper co-authored by IRS researchers found, the vast majority of unpaid taxes is owed by rich people. The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration in a study looking at the tax years 2014 to 2016 has detailed how hundreds of thousands of wealthy taxpayers have brazenly failed to file any tax returns at all.
Roger Stone is a perfect example of this phenomenon. On April 16, the United States filed suit to collect over $1.5 million in federal income taxes, interest and penalties it says Stone and his family owe, dating back to 2007. (Stone vowed to fight the complaint, calling it "yet another example of the Democrats weaponizing the Justice Department.”)
7/15/21:
Roger Stone, Wife Agree to $2 Million Settlement in Tax Case
QuoteThe agreement asks the court to enter a judgment that Roger and Nydia Stone will be liable, both together and as individuals, for about $1.7 million in unpaid income taxes, penalties, and interest, subject to potential additional interest as well as subtractions for previously processed payments or credits. It also proposes a judgment against Roger Stone alone for about $453,000 in taxes, penalties, and interest, subject to the same caveats.
Hunter Biden's 'sweetheart' deal tougher than Stone's tax deal
Quote
According to the Justice Department's press release announcing the charges, Hunter Biden failed to pay income taxes of more than $200,000 due in 2017 and 2018 on total taxable income of more than $3 million. The New York Times reported in March 2022 that Hunter Biden told an associate he paid the tax liability of more than $1 million, and that he had to take out a loan to pay it off....
NO CRIMINAL TAX CHARGES FOR STONE, WIFE
The government sued Stone and his wife, Nydia, in April 2021 for nearly $2 million in back taxes, penalties and interest. For 15 years before that, during both Republican and Democratic administrations, the IRS had filed liens against the couple seeking to collect. And for years, Roger Stone kept dodging – offering vague answers to inquiries and failing to hand over financial records sought by the government, arguing the Justice Department's tax lawyers already had obtained that information from his accountant.
