Wow. No one has started such a thread yet?
After promising that most K-8 students would be in schools in the first 100 days, apparently Joe is afraid to lead on this and has drastically scaled back that goal.
Instead, we're shooting for about half to go to school at least one day a week, by the end of April.
I would venture to say a whole lot of people are paying off their student loans and don't "need" them paid off. I know a lot of people with student loans accept it as their lot in life and the only way they could afford to go to college. Many try to pay them off earlier, but I also imagine that the minimum payment is all they can afford. I even know a physical therapist that makes good money but they need a doctorate that says the minimum on her loan is all she can afford, with her husband working and three kids to support. But she also has a home and two cars. She complains but never mentioned that the government should pay it off for her.
What I do hear from a lot of people, and I hear it from high income doctors since I work with young hospitalists, is that "when I pay off my student loans I will....(buy a house is the big one)".
Student debt is a burden on our society. Imagine the disposable income of people if they didn't have that debt and could spend that money in the economy.
But I do think that like the "open border crisis" on the Republicans (when it affects the daily lives of virtually no one), the "cancel student loan debt" issue is one that somehow got ahold of Democrats.
QuoteEconomists don’t like the Laffer curve
Economists tend to roll their eyes when the Laffer curve is mentioned. A panel of elite academic economists across the political spectrum found in 2012 that none of its respondents agreed that the United States was on the wrong side of the curve. Even George Stigler, a leader of the Chicago School of Economics who disliked taxes at least as much as Laffer, described the Laffer curve as “more or less a tautology.”
On top of his game.
"President Joe Biden recently boasted that the Supreme Court and a lower court had declared that they are "on Biden's side" on tuition forgiveness. That was off-base, but Biden made an even more bizarre comment that he "passed [the loan forgiveness] by a vote or two" in Congress.
That boast is particularly embarrassing because the administration is in court claiming that he did not need to get congressional approval for the plan. It is likely to be raised by challengers in the next stage of litigation. It also may reflect a moment of actual clarity in his subconscious mind, a faint recognition of the constitutional principles that he once defended as a United States senator."

Yep people are demanding a fact check on that gaffe. I'm beginning to think that he just makes stuff up as he goes along whether it's true or not. Trump did this often. It's not okay.
Here's a transcript of remarks in Delaware and he sounds coherent to me. But when it's more off the cuff and not scripted there's a problem.

Oh dear, then I surely won’t vote for him this year. Oh wait, he’s not running.

There is a constitutional remedy if a president is unable to fulfill the duties of the office.
I don’t see that verbal gaffes are a sign of failing mental capacity. Bush 43 made them all the time.

He said that Congress passed his student loan forgiveness program. You see that as a "verbal gaffe"?

The difference is that Biden doesn't make word salads out of ideas but he surely does make a lot gaffes. But he's done this his entire career. It put me off decades ago. The difference between him and Trump is that Biden is not emotionally ill and he has mostly experienced staff members who know how to pull a crazy person off the stage. It simply was the best we could do at the time and he isn't an evil person. He had no interest in military parades or other such exhibits loved by future dictators practicing while they are in the office of the presidency. But I do hope that a dark horse moderate Democrat can rise out of the factions in the party. Factions just mean that people are exchanging challenging and difficult choices amongst themselves rather than consolidating their talents to kiss the tuchus of the president. We are a messy bunch but we aren't batyouknowwhat crazy.
In my mind it was not a "verbal gaffe", it was a total falsehood. One can't help but wonder about his capacity if out of the blue he says something way off base. To me it's more than "I misspoke". I can't say he deliberately lied because that doesn't make sense. We'll have to hear another sad explanation I suppose.
A president needs to be a bit sharper than Biden has proven to be. At this point, I'm hearing alarms but not necessarily that he's incapacitated and unfit. Hopefully after the mid-terms he announces his retirement.

Yes we're proud of Joe for helping Americans. People need to APPLY for this program. So don't apply for it since you don't need the assistance.
