President Biden thread

Published

Wow.  No one has started such a thread yet?

After promising that most K-8 students would be in schools in the first 100 days,  apparently Joe is afraid to lead on this and has drastically scaled back that goal.

Instead, we're shooting for about half to go to school at least one day a week,  by the end of April.

President Biden on Passage of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill

My eyes see a competent, thoughtful, well spoken President who's done a ton of work to get this bill to the finish line and will make difference when my PA pot-holed roads get fixed.  Hope there will be funding allotted for long discussed light rail connection from Philadelphia to Pottstown, PA to get done to stop parking lot gridlock along 2 lane major commuter highway I-76W Philly to King of Prussia.

Ugh, the Consumer Price Index had it's biggest increase in 30 years, so bye-bye to the effect of increased wages. Some economists are blaming the COVID stimulus checks, some on the lag of returning workers, and apparently the oil companies are not increasing production. Of course, conservatives want to use this as a reason to not pass the Build Back Better Bill, which is actually paid for.

On a more positive note, it was good to see that the President is going to Arlington for a wreath laying ceremony for Veteran's Day.

Wow, I actually found someone who believes the line about it being paid for.

You could be right. I seem to remember being told that a huge tax cut passed during a previous administration would pay for itself. You know, the whole supply side economics scam. That didn't work out quite the way it was promised.

Whether it paid for itself or not wasn't really important to me or many others.  It still had many positives, and let people keep more of their money.

The tax cuts where good, but we need reductions in govt spending to go with then.

Why is the cost of the Biden initiatives the most important part now rather than the many positives?

Elected Republicans always scream how things cost too much.  But, they like to spend money too

I think most conservatives like myself are more concerned about the "what" are we paying for, and of course cost is a factor of that.  I think infrastructure is worthy of our tax money.  But, when a bill is full of liberal wish list items that have nothing to do with infrastructure, and are bad ideas for a variety of reasons., I object.  You then can add "it costs too much" to my objections.

As a side note, did anyone catch how Biden actually said that our infrastructure was in great shape when he first came into Congress, and how it's declined in the time he's been in DC?

Well, how did you and your colleagues let that happen, Joe?

I think that question is better directed at the former Senator Majority Leader McConnell.

He was first elected to the Senate in 1972, so there's plenty of time for infrastructure to deteriorate and plenty of people to blame for that, although infrastructure traditionally isn't entirely a federal responsibility.

It's refreshing to see that a conservative is not taking an extremely stringent line on spending.  My experience (anecdotal from friends and associates) is that most Republicans are perfectly fine with government spending.  You heard barely a peep when Trump signed the massive Covid relief bill.  They accepted as truth that the federal government injecting revenue into the economy would have a positive effect.

No, not better directed at him.  But, it could include him.

It is interesting though, that the Democrats such as Biden, Pelosi, and Schumer are always complaining about how bad things are.  Well, what have they been doing all these year

Well, Biden wasn’t in office from 2017-2021. I believe he was grieving for his son, and running for President. All 3 have been trying to pass legislation that the self-proclaimed Grim Reaper wouldn’t allow to pass. https://www.cnn.com/videos/politics/2019/06/14/mitch-mcconnell-grim-reaper-socialist-agenda-serfaty-dnt-lead-vpx.cnn
