Pre reqs for nursing !!! HELP

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

How many semesters and years did it take you guys to finish your pre reqs before being admitted into a nursing school ? including english psych bio chem etc.

I'm in MD too! But also, it took me 2.5 because I was originally a Bio major.

It took me two semesters and two summers to complete my pre requisites. This included all of the classes during the nursing program that you are allowed to take before starting nursing school. It helped lighten my load once I got into the program.

It shouldn't matter about time. As long as your goal is completed thats a blessing and thats all that matter. Yes, time can be important because you only have one life, and it's best not to waste time but it's great if you made your goal..

Did you just do the require classes for your nursing school you chose or the community college requirements and your programs?

It's taken my 5 semesters total to take every single class that I need that I'm able to take outside of my ADN program. That is with summers off and only taking 2 classes two of those semesters. I wanted to finish absolutely everything that I could to make sure I could focus on only NS classes when they time came! I will hopefully start my program in Jan.

It took me 2 years, every summer semester included to finish the pre reqs for a BSN

I was a little confused, so I declared an Associate in Arts as my major. Recently, I finally decided that I would like to be a nurse someday. This coming semester, my classes are Sociology 101, US History 101, and Biology 189. Other prerequisites such as COM101, Anth 101, computer class, math, International language(s), and others are already done. By the next semester, I should have less classes to take and I will have a chance to refresh my knowledge. Most of all, I need Biology 189, 223, 224, & 251 for my major, so these classes will delay me another two semesters or so. I wish that I knew what I wanted. I could save myself from aggravation or frustration.

For my ADN program the pre recs / classes to have before graduation

I still have some I need to graduate

The first college I had applied to (a CC with a ADN program) had a two year list and they required you to have all you immunizations done, you CPR card, HESI completed with a 75 or better, and the three pre req classes. I was able to get mine all done in a semester. In the middle of my second semester I applied to a University in my state that did not have any pre reqs or wait lists and was accepted for the fall. Ironicly I was also accpeted into the community college later that month also for the fall!

Specializes in public health, women's health, reproductive health.

It took me two semesters, but I had a BA and therefore had completed many of the pre-reqs already. I'm now working on co-reqs, one this semester and one next and then I start the nursing program.

Are we including retakes? What should have taken me 1.5 years (summers not included) to complete is now taking me 4 years. I've changed my major a few times, failed a few classes, taken a year or so off and then when I find I'm close enough to apply I don't remember anything and must retake a few classes. It's not that I don't remember. It's more like I didn't learn in the first place. That's what happens when you take classes and just try to "pass the exams" instead of learn the information.

I am also attending AACC in Arnold, MD. I will be taking the following classes in the morning/early afternoons Mon-Fri:

BIO 101- Intro to Bio (Yup starting from the beginning)

ENG 121- Honors English

MAT 131- College Algebra

HIS 211- US History

SPA 111- Spanish I

Hope to see you there!
