Should I take Chemistry BEFORE I take A & P I ???

I never took Chemistry in high school. The course catalog recommends Chemistry but it isn't a prerequisite. I'm really worried about A & P after hearing so many people say how hard it is. Will it be tougher with no Chemistry background ???? I was planning on taking both in the same semester along with Algebra II but am not sure if I should hold off on A & P I until after I take chemistry. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks !!!!

i would recommend that you take whatever you like first! it really does not make a difference if you take a & p i or chemistry first. one course does not have anything to do with the other. a & p i is primarily biology, while chemistry deals with more ideals on math and chemical elements e.tc. i haven 't taken chemistry since high school, but i have taken college a&p i and it was pretty interesting and the material was very basic.

to my understanding, a&p ii is a lot harder because it involves more detail and is not so basic! my advice is to go on the website "rate my professor.com", and check out the professors that are teaching these courses. i have done this myself in the past and find it extremely helpful when selecting professors. remember that a class sometimes can be easier or harder depending on the professor you choose....:D

good luck, musicstar23

In our school it was required to take Chem first, but honestly I have no idea why. I squeeked in w/ a beginning chem class I had taken 7 years ago, and let me tell you I didn't remember much, and didn't have any problems getting an A in A&PI.

I agree take what ever you like first. I took chemistry first, although I hated it, I got through it. I just finished my A&P's and chemistry played a very small factor in both of the classes - Urinary and Muscular systems had a little, but it really wasn't much. Best of luck to you!

AP does have chemistry in it but not plenty. Usually AP textbooks have a chapter in the beginning that has some chemistry in it. I would say take whatever you want to first. AP is hard ...simply because there is so much to learn and memorize...however, don't listen to rumors. About taking them in the same semester that is doable. As long as you are willing to put in the time and work to study you should be ok.

At my school, Biology or Chemistry is a prereq to A&P but chemistry is "strongly prefered". I took chem in spring quarter. I haven't taken A&P yet (registered for fall) but from some of the A&P study guides I have, I would be a lot farther lost in the woods if I didn't know basic chemistry. It doesn't hurt to at least brush up on it, especially the Organic Chemistry which is crucial to know in Bio class and to understand such things as amino acids and DNA.

Good luck! :)

I am taking A&P 1 and Chemistry this fall together. My adviser said that since I did well with Basic Biology. I should be fine. These will be the only two classes I take this fall. I think you should take whatever you want to take first. If you study hard, you should be fine.

I am taking them together next semester. I think two lab classes in a semester is going to be rough, but I can handle it and so can you!!!!

A&P I or II isn't all that difficult, but there is a lot of material. I suggest recording the lectures, making study cards, and reading the book. It's also helpful to get another used text to use as an additional reference. It isn't a class that you can blow off, so don't overcrowd yourself with too many classes. I found chemistry to be helpful in physiology and pharmacology, but a lot of my classmates didn't take it and they did fine. If it's something that you think that you will hate, then don't take the course.

At my school it's a prereq before you can take A&P1. I had to take it because I never took chemistry in high school. However....I went back to school 7 years ago and took chemistry then....but dropped out. Started up again with A&P last fall and I didn't remember anything from chemistry, lol. I don't think it's necessary. Good luck!

I would say even if it's not required, take it with A&P as it will only enhance your understanding of the material.

We use the unique function of every chemical reaction in our bodies to control the flow of energy through our bodies- in order to maintain life. IMO understanding how this works via some basic chemistry is an essential component of human physiology. It will also help with micro if you haven't taken that yet....:) Good luck!

I've looked over microbiology syllabuses online and my conclusion was that microbiology does not help working nurses to much. Chemistry should help you understand the chemical reactions taking place in microbiology. Someone please tell me what learning how viruses replicate inside a cell helps with doing paperwork or giving medicine as a RN.
