Have many of you used this website to check out/rate your professors?

A couple of semesters ago, someone told me about the site and I have found the ratings to be very helpful in selecting professors.

Have you found the ratings to be pretty accurate of past professors?

RateMyProfessors.com - Professor Reviews and Ratings

I've used it before... not to choose classes per se, just more as a reference to get a feel for the classes/professors I've already signed up for. The state university I currently attend really doesn't have a lot of student input posted to that site, so I haven't found it helpful these last couple of semesters :(

Specializes in Medical-Surgical, Hemodialysis.

Ratemyprofessors.com was front page news here two months ago. The article even stated that my college had taken action and complained that site's regulatory tools aren't up to par.

I've checked it out for future and past instructors/professors and some have been right on the mark and others have been dead wrong. I'm praying that they are dead wrong about the instructor I have for one of my classes this semester. :lol2: I'm fortunate enough to attend a small enough school that I can get first hand information about the instructors from other students that I trust.

Talking to other students is a very good way. Avoid the whiners. Make sure you talk to the serious, hardworking A students. If most feel a particular teacher is ok then you should be "safe" ;)

Exactly! I know some of the reviews on my Chemistry Professor were just terrible, but she was one of the best teacher's I've ever had. I now recommend her to anyone wanting to learn Chemistry. Not just get by, but actually learn something.

I'm off to read the first chapter in my Nutrition textbook.

I also use this site, I actually found it to be very helpful and "most" of the time to be true.

I love that site. It's very helpful. I always look on that site when choosing a class. When registering for a class online I always have 2 windows open and look at both to choose the best professor for me.

Specializes in Pediatric Pulmonology and Allergy.

I choose my classes based on what fits my schedule so I don't really have much room for maneuvering when it comes to choosing professors. I just have to hope I don't get stuck with a dud!

Like anything else on the internet, including advice people ask for on allnurses, you need the salt shaker handy. That being said, it's definitely a valuable resource as long as it's not your only one. For people like me who just moved here and don't know any of my classmates, it means at least I have something to go to for info. I know what classes I need to take and I know when I work, then I see what times fit my schedule, and if I have options beyond that I'll go to ratemyprofessors and try to find someone that fits my style. I too prefer tough but fair and interesting to easy but dull.

I registered, but only found 4 professors listed for my school (NMTC) can this be right?? what am I doing wrong???

Specializes in OR Internship starting in Jan!!.

I really like to use the site. Of course, I take it with a grain of salt, but it is a good starting point. When I write reviews, I'm sure to put details of why I think they were good or bad, because different people like different things and what I think makes a teacher good may cause someone else to think they are a poor teacher.

Is your school North Metro Technical College? I see about 25 professors listed for that school. Here is the direct link (if it works!) to that school:

I personally find most of the ratings to be truthful (at least those instructors that I had). Be skeptical...
