Dropping a course?

If you've ever dropped a course, could you please tell me if it affected your gpa? After this semester,

I only have one more prerequisite to take which will be the lab for micro. I took a statistics class online this semester along with A&P2 lab, and Micro lecture. For some reason, I am just not feeling

very disciplined with the statistics class. No matter how I try to force myself to stay focused, I just can't muster up the interest in this subject. It's not that I find it hard, I just find it boring. Really boring. I'm considering dropping it and taking it in the summer along with my micro lab. I have taken at least one distance learning class every semester since starting college and have managed an

A in everyone. To me, those other classes were very interesting.

Hopefully , if I take this class in a traditional setting, I will be able to interact with the instructor and other students, thereby getting more out of it. What do you all think?

Most colleges have a set day to drop a class with no grade reported. If you drop the class before this date then the class will not affect your gpa and it will not show up on your transcript. The only thing you will be out is whatever tuition you paid for the class.

At some/most colleges, it will not affect your GPA, but by dropping before the set drop date, you will have the class on your transcript, but with a "W" and not a grade. It looks much better than a D or F! :)

If you forget, and don't drop the class, or drop it after the drop date, you may/probably will end up with a failing grade.

Thank you. I have a call into a college counselor so I can discuss my options. Hopefully, this won't

pose a problem. If it does, then I will just have to find a way to pull this off. Wish me luck.

At our community college, as long as you withdraw by their withdrawal date, you'll just get a "W" and there will be no change in your GPA. I had to do that way back when I was taking College Algebra with another time intensive course. I elected to withdraw and took it again at another time.

Usually you won't get any refund unless you drop during the very first week.

I dropped 2 classes last quarter because I was in a car accident and not able to attend for the first 2 weeks which put me really behind. I waited till the final withdraw date and dropped them. It did not affect my GPA and it did not affect my financial aid however it did put me on academic probation for this quarter. Thankfully I have 2 a's and a B this quarter so I will be fine.

Good Luck

I've dropped courses before. Ususally it is a W or WD on your transcript and it does not affect your GPA.

I took Statistics in class (rather than online) and it was the most boring class I have ever taken. You may just want to soldier through the online version- because I doubt it will be much better in person.

Just my 2c!

Wow I am really surprised to hear that the schools you attend put a W on your transcript if you drop a course within the drop period. I attended Michigan State for my bachelors and am now attending a community college to finish up some nursing pre-reqs and they both had the policy of as long as you drop within the drop period no one will ever be able to tell you were enrolled in the class.

I've dropped many classes and it hasn't affected my GPA. I've always withdrawn with passing grades, or before any tests to have a grade.

They've always shown up on the transcript as W's.

I heard the other day from a student that when applying to the very competitive school here at Univ of S. Florida, a withdraw shows up and is unfavorably looked upon as an "attempt". All things created equal between two people other than the withdraw, then the one who doesn't withdraw stands a better chance. I've never heard of such a thing, and I think it's rediculous.

Good luck. Sometimes you have to do what you have to do.

Well, our school has both an add/drop period during which if you drop a class, nothing will show. Anything after this period and before the withdrawal deadline gets a "W."

While yes a "W" can be looked upon as something negative, but there are many reasons for dropping a class, not just not being able to handle the courseload.
