A clear answer about my associates would help a future.

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Hi, I got accepted to a community college for assoc. in science, Prof. studies, general program. I wanna be a nurse. I've got few questions, if u answer all, that would be a real help :)

1. Can i transfer to a nursing school for 2 years to obtain my bsc since i will have associates in science?

2. Can i become a nurse in 4yrs (2yrs in associates in science + 2yrs in bsc) after my high school graduation?

You need to check with the nursing programs you plan to apply/transfer to. IMO, an associate degree in general science is unlikely to contain the pre-req courses needed for a particular nursing program. You might be wasting your time. Just as people who get associate degrees in Medical Assisting. Also unlikely that a BSN program will accept many of the courses from a general associate in sciences. Each nursing program has set required courses.

I got an associates of science degree, then transfered to the ASN program, which was 2 years. I think you'll have trouble finding a 2 year BSN program unless you have a bachelors in another area, then transferring to an accelerated bachelors-in-anything type program.

ETA- I see that you are going straight out of high school. In my area, there are no programs like that.

I got rejected from the nursing program in a community college. I really want to become a nurse. What should I do for that?

OP, as long as you find out what the nursing programs that you are interested in course requirements are, you can ABSOLUTELY take those courses at a community college, get your associates, and move on to get your bachelor's degree in nursing; I did the same thing and it saved me money.

The best thing for you to do is to seek out your local community college's transfer office; when I went to community college there was an office where they had local and some national schools, their program requirements and the courses listed as to what to take at the community college. Also speak to area programs as to what they want as well, make a plan, and execute that.

As long as you complete the pre-requisites required for nursing courses, then you will be ok...particularly since nursing courses in ADN and BSN courses are similar (sometimes with the BSN maybe having 1-2 more courses), either option will have you in school for four years...you are young, so just go for the BSN, especially if you are in an area that is BSN preferred, if you end up being interested in a government job, or if you decide to to go grad school to further your career.

Don't just shut out BSN programs; do well in your courses-more As, Bs less C's, and study for the entrance exams (if required) and cast your net wide for programs and you will go far.

You need to research what classes you need to take in order to get into; also, like I stated before, don't just hook yourself to one program; look into BSN programs, find out what courses you need through the community college, make a plan and go from there.

I'm not from the area, but I am trying to be clear-you won't lose semesters when you choose the classes you need for any nursing program...contact the school, tell them you are interested becoming a nurse; they will help you choose the courses that you need to satisfy it; you WILL NOT LOSE SEMESTERS; you can complete the coursework that you need while waiting to get into a program while being in a different program; many people have done this and it has nothing to with location; I've done it successfully and I am in a different state.
