Pre-employment drug test

Nurses Job Hunt

Published

So I went back to school while looking for a job to just get some classes to possibly go to medical school. I am currently taking physics and I had an exam yesterday. I have a really hard time with the class so I took an adderall two days before and yesterday to stay awake and to see if it would help my concentration. I am not prescribed it. A friend of mine gave it to me.

After my exam, I got a call from a place I interviewed for said I got the job and to come in the next day for a physical and blood works. I know that that's an amphetamine. Do you think they will take back the offer? I only took two. I am not a drug user or anything. I just needed to study.

Please advice!

If you fail the drug test, they will take back the offer. If it shows up, you will fail. Don't take anything not prescribed to you, ever. Its not worth the consequences.

may not show up if it has been metabolized sufficiently, but I have to agree with Glycerine82. Do not take chances. Research shows that studying like this is futile as you are retaining and will not recall the data anyway

This could be a tough learning experience for you, unfortunately. You can't explain the presence of a narcotic that is NOT prescribed for you by telling them "I'm not a drug user or anything....I only took two...".

Maybe it will have had enough time to metabolize enough in the sample you give for it to appear. Good luck to you.

I think you can kiss that job goodbye if you pop + for the drug.

If you test positive, yes they will likely rescind the offer as you have drugs in your system that you are not prescribed. "I only took two" or "I only did it once" isn't going to fly as far as the employer is concerned. Most places have zero tolerance for drug abuse. There's not much advice any of us can give you other than don't do it again so you won't be facing this issue the next time you get a job offer.

Telling them that "i'm not a drug abuser" won't help you, if you show up hot, you took something that isn't prescribed for you, they will say you have abused drugs which in essence you did do, and they will refuse the job offer.

I wouldn't waste my time or their money. They won't hire you if you don't have an RX for that medication. You took two so there is a good chance it'll show up. Next time don't take meds that aren't yours, esp. If your looking for a job.

Also, you will likely never be able to work for that employer in any capacity. Just so you know.
