practicing medicine

Published

Hello,

My emotions are crazy so I need some sense from you nurses.

I'm a pedi nurse. My 7 yr old nephew was at his dad's house (hardly sees him) and his girlfriend is a nurse.

According to his dad, his "oxygen dropped" so they put him on his "grandma's oxygen machine."

Is that medical neglect that they never sought medical help when his oxygen dropped? my nephew said they had a pulse ox on him and they put drops (I'm guessing in an old nebulizer machine )

1- why didn't they go to urgent care?

2- why did they use an old neb machine to some dead grandma (germs...eeew!)

3- what med did they give? why? it's not prescribed to him...is she practicing medicine? ?

I'm livid! some sense please??

And how exactly is this funny? On the contrary, I find this rather sad

As with klone's friend, I know of many, without insurance and no other options that have done this.

Well since not having insurance is now illegal in the United states I guess you could have them arrested.

Hahaha ur dogs keflex!

Just FYI -ivermectin for human tx of scabies is a dog med. And Lasix is an equine anticoagulant, I think.

Kinda scary in my opinion.

Keflex is Keflex. There's no "dog" version and "human" version. Years ago, I had a vet who used to write me prescriptions for my dog (for some medications, not all) to take to the pharmacy and get filled; she said that she could sell me the veterinary version, but it was exactly the same medicine and the human (generic) version was a lot cheaper.

ivermectin kills bugs (Scabies) and is used as a de-wormer in animals as well as a topical treatment for sarcoptic mange. Lasix is used (illegally) in race horses known as bleeder's who get nosebleeds due to lung trauma that occurs in some horses when they are forced to run fast over a sustained distance.

One of the many reasons why I don't go to the track anymore... isn't that where the expression "I need to pee like a racehorse" comes from? Since those animals were all dosed up with furosemide?

Why is it that the most interesting things that I learn on AN are NOT nursing related

I must confess I turned up my own oxygen just a smidge when I was in the hospital for bad asthma. I turned it back down really quickly when I heard the nurse open the door to my room. I also crushed an enteric-coated pill one time. I'm sorry.

Bless you my child--go in peace.

Really? I thought horses just had to pee a lot.

Wouldn't the saying then be "pee like a horse"?
