Ok, I admit it! I watched Dr. Phil today on my day off! I have a cold on my day off and was lounging on the couch. lol
This mother has a son who weighs 150 pounds and was in complete denial about the entire thing! She keeps taking him to doctors wanting them to give her some medical reason for being obese, but keeps pouring the food in him. ?????????? This mother herself weighed over 350 pounds! The logic gene totally skipped this women! The kid already has acid reflux at 4 years old. I don't even want to know what condition his heart is in. Yikes, a little scary.
Just venting all, thx.

My boys don't eat...they inhale, but if the sun is shining they are not allowed in the house, they're way too noisy for one thing and for another I just need some peace and quiet in my life. How could anyone put up with a child inside all day? How can a single mother afford sooo much take out?
I think nutrition should be taught at school in class, something the kids have to take tests for to get a passing grade. After a few generations the problem might be lessoned and our kids might be a little healthier. I don't know, maybe people should just be screened for defects before being allowed to breed.
My niece has a severe weight problem. She is 5 and she likely weighs 90 - 100 lbs. This girl is so heavy that she looks bloated all over and her belly hangs way over her pants. Mom is in total denial and will give her an extra sandwich for lunch without a second thought. It just bugs me so much and to make things worse, there is a family hx of type 2 diabetes. Another poster mentioned that sometimes a child is overweight because the parents just never say no. This is certainly the case here. Very sad.
Dr. Phil had this kid back on the show this week, and apparently when the father saw the child on the show he fought for full custody and won. The child has now lost over 50 pounds and is doing great.
Dr. Phil was praising this guy up and down for everything he has done for this child, but I can't help but wonder where the father was before the show happened the first time? Did he just never see the child? Why does it take a national TV show for you to want to care for your child?
Just my two cents.
It's all McDonalds' fault.
so SUE Them....she may win really .....i saw the show. She is flat-out in denial and irresponsible...hanging all her hopes on some sort of physical ailment that may or may not exist. Sick if you ask me. If that is not a woman needing counseling, I don't know what IS. She is the one w/a problem if you ask me.
You guys are just kidding, right?

yeah, they were kidding. :)
at the time of the original thread, mcdonald's was being sued for making people fat. that lawsuit was thrown out, but just goes to show that people will sue anyone rather than take responsibility for their own actions/choices/lifestyles.
I personally, believe that children that are morbidly obese sustain the greatest damage to their health during these developing years, and this damage can last a lifetime.
I fully advocate, that this is child neglect...she is too LAZY to get this kid not only proper medical care, but to feed him properly.
Granted, this child may be predisposed to be overweight due to genetics, however, shoving Twinkies and cupcakes down his throat is something that she should have never started. She needed to establish good eating habits that last a lifetime.
Our children do not get refined sugar in our home. They take their cereal plan, eat every veggie you can think of, etc....we started doing this with their baby food.
Now, if we go to someone's house, and they have cookies, cakes, etc...can they have some? Absolutely! Ice cream and all. We have noticed because they are not used to sweets...what they can tolerate is very limited...very often they only eat a half-slice of pie and say, "I can't eat it", indicated they are done...because they haven't been given huge amounts of it every day...they have their own "shut off" to sugar. We do the same with carbs.
However...before they are old enough to ask for these things...we are trying to establish good eating habits?
My son's favorite food? Prunes...my Daughters? Le Seur peas..she practically begs for them.
