13 pound infant...thank goodness it was c-section!

:rolleyes: My first child was 11lb 10oz at birth. She was a week late. I made hospital record for lady partsl birth. They suspect I was an undiagnosed gestational diabetic. It was not a fun l/d- 36hrs, shoulder dystocia,and 3rd degree lac. She is five now and still tall for her age. My second daughter they did a c-sec for history of size and she was only 7lbs 9.6oz. I was so upset about the c-sec. Oh well! she just turned 3 on sunday.

You would think I would know better, I was a l/d nurse. I was determined to have a natural birth. I did,but it almost killed both of us.

I want to go back into nursing when my husband gets out of the army. It is pretty hard to work 12hr shifts if you don't know if your husband will be home or not to babysit.

My daughter was 9lb 5oz two weeks early. I was measuring around 4 wks ahead from 30wks pregnant. :rolleyes: No diabetes...just from a family of big babies, and yes I'm already worried about the size of my future babies!!!

My younger sister was 12lb 8oz and no GD there either.

Well, it's nice to know that I can start the first official big baby club. I was the youngest of 3 number 1# 20 inches 11lb 5oz (2#) 21 in 11.7oz amd me number( 3# ) also 21 in and 11.7oz. Our mom had all 3 by lady partsl birth and wound up with surgery for a dropped bladder. All of this by the age or 23 . No sugar prolems at all. Here's the kicker though, she was always a petite woman 5ft 6 in average weight110 lbs. Her heaviest weight during pregnancy? 125lbs. She ate and we all got fat, and still are fat for that matter. Wish I had her skinny genes

My first was 10 lbs, 8 oz 22 inches, one week late. Suspected GD, but not diagnosed. Pushed for 2 1/2 hours, severe tear. Thank goodness for epidurals.

Second baby induced one week early for fear of size, and she was 8 pounds, 8 ounces. Much shorter delivery with no problems.

My first was 9#15oz (C-section for FTP after 3 day IOL) and second was 11#13oz (repeat C-section). I thought I was having twins and they missed it! Was very uncomfortable and couldn't sleep from about the 7th month on. Blood sugars were fine.

I've had big babies, had GD 2x (1st and 3rd preg), but no signs of it at all with my last, 4th pregnancy (even with weekly blood draws, and me checking at home), and A1c never got above 4.8, but still, my last baby was 11 lb., 1 oz. But he was long also (which GD doesn't affect length), at almost 25". He was a waterbirth in the hospital - the biggest waterbaby they've had by far. Goes to show how far off late ultrasounds can be - they said he was 9 lb two days before delivery, which was around the norm weight for my babies.

I couldn't sleep either, Jennifer. I spent the last 2 months of my pregnancy sleeping in a recliner or propped up on the sofa. The minute I laid flat on the bed, I felt like I was suffocating.

My 2nd baby was 10 lbs 8 oz. Birth was OK, 13 hrs total, vag deliv, no lacs, one dose of Nubain & that's it.

I knew she was going to be big b/c during that last week, I could feel her head grinding my bladder/pelvis at the same time her feet were ramming my lungs up into my throat! My first was 8 lbs 15 oz and I knew this baby would be bigger just from the feel of it.

However, my first had a bigger/harder head and THAT'S when I had the lac, although it was minor.

Also no gest diabetes in my case. Although I am aware it is a risk factor for DM later in life.

My first baby a son was 10lb 2oz and was 22 inches long. I did not have gestational diabetes. I had him lady partslly and had an epidural for pain. My second baby was a girl 11lbs 2oz and was 24 inches long. I had her lady partslly with an epidural. I did not have gestational diabetes with her either. Both the babies had normal blood sugars. They are 21(son) and 17(daughter). It was funny because when my husband and I went to the nursery window everyone exclaimed, especially with our daughter "Who had that 11 pound baby?" It was almost embarassing to admit it was me, I got alot of strange looks. :chuckle

My friend tells the story of an older relative in her family who got married young many decades ago. Catholic marriage, didn't believe in birth control. Got pregnant on her honeymoon and 9 months later delivered, without pain meds, a 13 pounder. Was in a coma for a week afterwards. I don't know the medical reasons, I'm telling all of the story that I know.

After coming out of the coma she promptly moved into a separate bedroom and never had sex with her husband again. They stayed married and raised their one son together until one of them died of old age. Kindof sad, kindof funny.

WOW! My baby was 9 lbs 10oz just 5 months ago. For me, I was HUGE!!!!! I am 5 foot tall, and weighed 110 lbs (before birth!) My belly was the biggest thing I had ever seen in my life. :)

Mine were: 11'4 and 10'1. Both had low blood sugars at birth. I did not have gestational diabetes but with the second one, my sugar did go up a little with 7th month sugar test. When I had a repeat it was ok.

They were both lady partsl. But, of course, I am 5'9" and have hips the size of Texas. :rolleyes: :chuckle

Oh, and the second one (10'1) was born in an hour and a half. Man, if I ever had a 7 pound baby I could just squat and lift a leg. :chuckle
