  1. congratulations! let us know what hospital you go with. I don't know if your interested or even if it is still available but last month I found a nursing positon open with the VA for their outpatient clinic located in St. Augustine. I think you needed two years expereince.
  2. Unless the nurse recruiter at Baptist was fibbing, what you heard was a rumor. She told me I would get extra for evenings and even more for weekends and if you work evenings on weekends you would get both shift differentials. She also told me that by the time I graduate (11/05) there would be at least another pay increase. Hope this helps
  3. Hi, I currently reside in New Jersey and will be starting an accelerated BSN program here. Upon completion (14 months) my husband and I will be relocating to the house were building in St Augustine. Unlike a good number of you who have replied to this post, I am extremely tired of the cold and snow and look forward to a more moderate climate. Go figure, maybe in 10 years I'll miss it all and want to go back. I sure hope that I like nursing! I have been sponsored by Baptist Medical in Jacksonville and will be working at one of their hospitals when I get there.
  4. I'm certainly not an expert in this department but for starters pre-reqs is short for pre requisites. These are course you must complete before you can enter nursing school. they can vary from school to school but some are pretty standard, such as Anatomy & Physiology I & II, Microbiology, chemistry. etc. My suggestion to you is to contact some of the various schools in Florida to see what they have to offer. Some schools stream line the education process for people with medical experience. There is also a website, www.flcenterfornursing.org There is alot of information and links here. I don't live in Florida yet but will as soon as I finish nursing school next year. I found a hospital, Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville that offers scholarships. www.bmcjax.com . There are alot of opportunities out there, you just have to search for them. I hope this was some help to you.
  5. keep us updated on your progress. Hopefully it will go smoothly. I just got my check from Baptist the other day. I will say one thing for them, they have been extremely prompt in processing my scholarship.
  6. I'm hoping to work at Baptist South also, but I'll take what I can get. I just signed a scholarship work assignment with them. Flager Hospital in St. Augustine is actually closer for me. Have you checked them out? I stopped there and they gave me a whole package. They offer a $2000.00 sign on bonus. Also, if you sign on with Baptist and have outstanding student loans they'll give you 3000.00 toward them. Expect salary shock though.
  7. I talked to the recruiter about the new hospital yesterday. It will open in 2/05. If you go the the Baptist web site and look under their career section you can search the availabe positions that they are hiring for. If you need any more information let me know, I'll see if I can help. Hey maybe I'll even be working with you somtime next year? I'm building in st. Augustine.Bogeydog i think the address is www.bmcjax.com
  8. There are several hospitals in the Ocean, Monmouth County area that have arrangements with certain programs. For instance, if you get into the accelerated BS to BSN program offered by Seton Hall but taught at Georgian court 4 hospitals are offering 10,000.00 scholarships for 2 years work with an additional 5,000.00 a year in tuition forgiveness up to a total of 25,000.00. Meridian healthcare whichs is Jersey Shore Medical, Ocean medical and Raritan also have sponsorhip for the nursing program at Ocean County community college. So does Community Medical which is part of the St Barnabas Health care system. I'll be starting the Seton Hall program in September and opted for a scholarship from Baptist Health in Florida. As soon as I'm done were moving. Hope this was helpful Bogeydog
  9. Hi, I spoke to a nurse recruiter with Baptist today. She said new grads start at either 17.25 or 17.50 an hour depending on whether they are assigned to med surg or critical care. Night differential is 3.25 and weekend diff is 5.00. she also said if you have outstanding student loans she can approve a one time $3000.00 payment to go towards them. I don't know if you're interested in the new facility under construction but she said they will not initially be hiring new nursing grads for that facility. bogeydog
  10. Hi, Is there anyone out there who has experience working for this hospital? I'm considering whether or not to apply for scholarship with them, but of course they want the work commitment for it. Is it a good move or will I live to regret it? Bogeydog
  11. Never mind my previous post. I didn't realize this thread was for CRNA. On the up side when I have questions I know to ask you. Best of luck. Bogeydog
  12. What are you studying? I know that UMDMJ can be quite a coveted slot. Good luck bogeydog
  13. Well, it's nice to know that I can start the first official big baby club. I was the youngest of 3 number 1# 20 inches 11lb 5oz (2#) 21 in 11.7oz amd me number( 3# ) also 21 in and 11.7oz. Our mom had all 3 by lady partsl birth and wound up with surgery for a dropped bladder. All of this by the age or 23 . No sugar prolems at all. Here's the kicker though, she was always a petite woman 5ft 6 in average weight110 lbs. Her heaviest weight during pregnancy? 125lbs. She ate and we all got fat, and still are fat for that matter. Wish I had her skinny genes Bogeydog,
  14. I'm use to the fresh part. My father in law was a 76 year old pig. He use to ask everyone and I mean EVERYONE who came in his room if they wanted to see his catheter. Hey, maybe thats where I get this fear from! I guess if I can't come to terms with it I can always find some kind of nursing that doesn't require that type of exposure. School nurse maybe? Thanks again Bogeydog By the way I'm from NJ too!
  15. Thanks to everyone who responded. Some of the stories are so great. To Helllo Nurse, you wouldn't be the first nurse that wanted to trade jobs with me! Maybe we could switch off every other week? Sort of balance the stress level. The more I think about it the worse thing that could happen is that I wind up with another job I don't like. Besides, I can always go back to the Post Office. On the funny side, I now find myself looking at strangers everywhere I go and asking myself could I deal with seeing them naked. (Very strange) Oh, I got to tell you I was watching the Discovery channel today and they had on that birthday show. Basically Labor & delivery. Definately not the place for me to start a nursing career. That's real up close and personal!! Thanks again, Bogeydog I'll have lots of questions once school starts so be prepared!
