Dementia Patients
try to imagine what it is like to suffer with dementia. imagine how you would feel if you woke up every morning and didn't know where you were! where is my family?where is my home? where is the toilet? then imagine being unable to communicate this verbally. this can lead to fear frustration and anger. quite often people accept the behaviour, oh mrs jones is up in the night because she has dementia, or is it because she needs the toilet, is she worried, frightened or lonely.quite often if you can discover the why that is the solution to challenging behaviour. there should be books available that examine challenging behaviour and personhood, if you find them it should give you insight into nursing people with dementia/related illnesses. hats off to you though, if you can aknowledge your own concerns and look to adress them you'll probably do well. good luck. :rotfl:

Nearly RGN, Maybe RMN?
you wil be taken seriously as an RGN there is much co-morbidity now across the fields of pschy and general nurses. as far as dual training you nedd to speak to your lecturers in your school of nursing as i'm sure there is now scope for you to undertake a shortened training course following you RGN training. if you get any joy please let me know i'm currently trying to figure a way of supplementing my education and experience to gain nurse registration in america, but rmn isn't recognised there. i hope you have some luck it's suprising i've heard of many nurses changing their branch for psychi. good luck:)

Classes of nurses in UK???
hi dawn, don't worry too much about the current grading it is under review at present called agenda for change. this will involve banding according to your responsibilities and what your actual job entails. it is designed to reward those nurses who work outside their original job description. as with anywhere else the U.K has a system of promotion the further up the ladder the higher the banding.

uk psychiatric nurse wants to train in florida
I hope someone can help me. I know my R.M.N. is not recognised in the States. So, I've decided to take the plungeand train in the US if possible. Somewhere on this board was a nurse who has been awarded scholarship by a hospital to undertake her training and has also offered her a job at the end of her training. I'm getting lost around the discussion board and can't even get acces to the chat rooms. It has taken me nearly a month to find out that my R.M.N. isn't recognised in the States, so I hope someone in here can help me before I need psychiatric help myself. I qualified in 1989. Have an advanced diploma in nursing. As well as 15 years experience as a qualified nurse, nealry 20 as nurse.
