Aloha!! Right, i'll keep this short n to the point Im a RGN with 5 mths post-reg experience in day surgery (recovery). Now im doing my psychiatric nursing for 12 mths, & qualify in september. What i want to know is, to work in australia, can i go straight over there to work in psych care, or do i need post-reg experience. Some have said yes, some say no :uhoh21: Just to clarify, i do enjoy RGN critical care (millions ask why do psych....!?) but long-term id like to work in A&E as psych liasion, but that'll take years Well that was just to explain a bit! Well, all thoughts, wonders & head-scractches will be much appreictaed! Thanks, Meeee!

Neuro ICU - Do you talk to brain-dead patients?
Just for my pennies worth, I agree with all of the above. During my first hospital placement as a student, I was told it was a sign of respect to always talk to the patient after they have passed away. Now, as a 3rd yr student, I still agree with and have continued to do so. :)

Probally A Silly Question
Just to put my two pences worth in........! Im a student nurse in North-West England. When our uniforms were being given to use, we were not given the option of a dress? :uhoh21: So during those lurrrvly hot sunny days, it's still tunic and trousers. There are delightful 'elephant grey' as a friend once described it. White could be hazardous to learners? Or is that harsh?!!?

Nearly RGN, Maybe RMN?
Hey all.... Okie, im going to try keep this short. (?!) Im a student nurse coming to the end of my second year of my diploma course. :imbar Now i do enjoy my RGN, but i spent a period of 8 weeks on a psychiatric ward during my first year. I loved my time on this ward and i think it made me realise that RMN is what i am more suited to. Ok, to cut the jargon, i want to know how do i go about doing a degree in Mental health once i've qulified as a RGN?? Also, as im doing a diploma course now, will i be elidgeable to do a two year course into my mental degree as i have already done the CFP during my 1st yr? (am i making sense or just confusing myself now?!) Okie doke, thanks girls n boys for reading mah lil post..... positive/negative/advice.....all feedback will be appreciated Toodleoo! (P.S. Out of interest.....will i still be taken seriously even though i will (hopefully) have an RGN qualification?)

Placement hours student nurses.
Im just going into my 2nd year now. Dont know if this will be any help but here goes!.......... I have to do 37.5 hrs a week, and on a ward this usually the equivilant to- 4 shifts- early (7-3) or late (1.30-9.30) and one 4hr shift, (8-12) Remaining hrs make up a half day that we are given as part of private study. As for long days, i think you can do these upon request and they're usually 7-9.30. Hope this makes sense ( ) and helps with your childcare arrangements! :)
