Post the med you seen on tv today!

Published

Funny, after reading a few posts about people seeing drugs on the nclex exam that they never heard of, and gave the advice to watch commercials for newer drugs... I decided to turn on the tube and let my mind relax, low and behold the first thing I saw was a commercial for Crestor which is to help lower cholesterol. Feel free to share the medication advertisments that you happened to see.:jester:

EDIT...Post a med that you never heard of from ANY place you seen it!

Jadu1106, how did you get that posted so fast? :tku: I love this thread too. I've heard alot of people are getting pharmacology questions that they have never heard of. Maybe we can extend this thread to also include any other "new" drugs as well as ones seen on tv?:D

Advil is a nonopioid analgesic. It is also used for RA and osteoarthritis...

Could have been Advil PM which has a sleeping aid in it (diphenhydramine citrate = antihistamine)

Jadu1106, I'm a nerd too! :hehe::hehe: I'm here too all week reading these posts and posting hoping that when the big day comes ( NCLEX ) , I won't be so scared I pee my pants.:lol2:

The meds that one is seeing on tv are not the meds that are going to be on the exam at all.

And not what you should be using in preparing for this exam.

Chances are that you have not seen the medication anywhere before and they want to have some idea of what you will be doing if your patient is ordered that medication.

Any of the recently FDA approved meds that are on TV now will not be on the NCLEX that you take. They "revamp" the test every few years (I believe I heard every 2-3). So the meds on the NCLEX (the ones you will recognize) will be at least 2-3 yrs old.

I took my NCLEX-PN on Wednesday (passed BTW, yah!) and I had two meds that I KNOW I'd seen on TV (one of the two were discussed in school) I had osteoporosis and an ED med on my test that are on TV ALL the time. (I don't think I can give the exact names since it might be in volation of the NCLEX by giving exact details of the test I had) I had one med (a diuretic) that anyone in Nursing School knows like the back of their hand.

Other than those the meds, I had never seen or heard of the others ever..in my life. Lucily I was able to decipher what class the med could be/might be by the ending. Like LOL's and sones.

hey guys there is a thread that someone had posted up with the list of medications seen on TV...

check it out and hope this helps. if anyone has any specific teaching instruction for a particular med, please do share. =) thanks a bunch!
