Portage learning

I am applying to a nursing school and the refered me to portage learning online for my prerequisites. Can anybody tell me if portage learning is accredited? Has anybody taken classes from them before? Did you have any problems transfering your credits?

I really appreciate the help of anybody out there who can give me some info. Thank you!

Has anyone had trouble getting Portage Learning credits to transfer? I am still in the prerequisite stage and Olympic College in Washington requested the course syllabus so they could evaluate the course. I just heard back from them that they won't count it because the labs aren't face-to-face. I'm worried that this will be the same answer no matter where I look at going.

I just wrote a long response and the site locked up and lost it.

Anyway, I've mentioned this before, but it bears repeating: Unless you're taking 100% traditional face-to-face courses for all of your prerequisites then you need to contact all of the schools you plan on applying to and get specific information regarding what they will and will not accept.

One ABSN program that I considered applying to will accept ALL of the courses Portage offers except A&P I and II. This is not due to the lab component being online because I took Microbiology w/ lab through Portage and they accept that no problem.

I can honestly say that schools that are unwilling to accept online courses as prereqs are probably missing out on a lot of well qualified applicants. Online education is the direction a lot of schools and students are headed in. Also, transcripts don't indicate that a course was taken online, so unless the school is a dead giveaway (such as Portage) then the school wouldn't necessarily know anyway.

That does help, thanks. Transcripts from Portage Learning say that they are from Geneva College, so unless they say "online" on them, I was wondering if schools would be able to tell the difference. I just got worried since one already said no. But I feel a little better now. Thank you! For anyone thinking about taking chemistry through Portage, I'm having a great experience with it. I forgot most of high school chemistry, but going at my own pace, having a good instructor, and the examples being very straightforward, I have a solid B so far and I'm about halfway through.

I took two courses with portage online learning (microbiology and anatomy and physiology). This is a self-paced program that worked perfect since I needed both these courses completed in under six weeks. I could not of asked for a better program. The staff from administration to the teachers was always very helpful. I plan to take more courses with them due to the flexibility they offer. The labs are done completely online by watching demonstrations by the instructors while you keep a lab notebook. Please feel free to message me with specific questions. As mentioned they do not offer financial aid.

Trying to complete A&P plus chemistry in about six weeks, and I have zero background with either (and have been out of school 30 years, lol). The first module of A&P has me a bit freaked because I think they assume you have some basic understanding of chemistry (which, for me, would be remnants of a general science class in 10th grade, back when Jimmy Carter was president, LOL). Going slow, and looking at YouTube however, I think I may survive this first module…

I am currently enrolled in the Portage Learning A&P II course. I was wondering if anyone could tell me about the layout of the exams. For example, is each question timed or does the majority of the exam contain multiple choice?

Thanks

I was just wondering how the exams were? Also was everything pretty much open notes?

Yes it is open book but everything is online so it was hard to go back and forth with looking. The exams differ from course to course. The Chemistry exams were very hard I felt. I think taking it throu a school was easier.

The exams are not open book or open notes (except for the lab quizzes which allow you to use your lab notes). However, the tests are not proctored in any way so I am not sure how they monitor compliance. It is likely that, because the tests are timed to one hour, someone would have a tough time even with notes if they did not understand the material. The labs contain a LOT of lecture material and the ONLY way I have managed to complete them is by plugging in earphones and then dictating as much as possible verbatim into my iPhone. Siri is AMAZING and understands even the most obscure and technical medical terms in the course! It helps to have Microsoft word on your phone and also on your desktop, using their free Onedrive storage box so your notes are present in both places at the same time. Regarding AP 2, The first module is absolutely ridiculous in the amount of material it tries to cover – everything from the chemical action of neurons to the bones of the ear to the various layers of the eyeball... I memorized a ton of stuff but then when I took the test it only covered a fraction of stuff and was pretty simple (in other words, I studied too hard!). The second unit is a lot more reasonable (the first module had about 120 review questions and this module has only about 12 questions!).

Another study tip I found helpful is this. On the first page of every module is a "print" option which opens the material in a format that you can copy and paste into a word document. I use this for taking notes – I just create text boxes and add stuff I want to remember.

Hey everyone!

I just enrolled in Micro thru Portage learning. I was wondering how the quizzes were? Are the questions likes the follow up questions????

Hey there! I'm looking to find some assistance in completing Chem through Portage. I've completed both the first module exam and the first lab exam and made a 90 and a 100. However, it definitely seems as though the content in each module gets much more difficult from here on out. I have about 2-3 weeks to complete the course and MUST have a B at the very minimum. I've tried searching for materials for this specific course on sites such as CourseHero and Chegg study, but I haven't had much luck. If anybody has any suggestions or can give me any insight please let me know. Feel free to email me at [email protected]. Thanks!
