Portage learning

Published

I am applying to a nursing school and the refered me to portage learning online for my prerequisites. Can anybody tell me if portage learning is accredited? Has anybody taken classes from them before? Did you have any problems transfering your credits?

I really appreciate the help of anybody out there who can give me some info. Thank you!

Another question for you.. What is a good way to study for the lab exams? Im worried that they are going to be really hard. Thank you!

Lab exams are the easiest. Just take notes on the video and you're allowed to open-book it - so take notes in as much detail if you want.

Yes I agree, take very good notes! You can use them in exams. Don't take the exam until you're ready & have good notes & you will do just fine!

I haven't done chem yet so can't speak to those labs but for A and P, you have to basically write down almost everything said. Make sure yoy know the words on the slides in between and then after you've done notes, listen to the lecture one more time and add on anything yoiu missed out.

I also found if you did the lab with the corresponding module there was a lot of cross over. Don't be nervous, just do one and you'll get the hag of it, remember its only 30 points

Hi Everyone I just finished A and P 1 and got an A and wanted to thank you all for helping. It's SO hard to be so far away from your goal but this thread has been really helpful to me. I'm wondering if I should A and P 2 next or switch gears and do chemistry. I know you can do more then one subject at the same time too so maybe that would work better for me.

For anyone who took the stats class, is the lecture demonstrations of actual problems? I'm most nervous about stats

Anyone have any suggestions for getting through microbiology? I'm a big picture person so I really dislike the micro level stuff

I know this thread is from a few months ago, but I wanted to share my experience taking Microbiology through Portage, as I'm just finishing it up now.

I was very nervous that Micro was going to be difficult, but I found that if you are very conscientious about reading the materially thoroughly, answering the review questions thoroughly and taking VERY good notes during the lab lectures that the course is very straight forward. I have taken micro over the course of 4 weeks and I have learned much more than I expected that I would! I currently have a 97% and I'm taking the final tomorrow. I had to take the course quickly to meet an application deadline, so Portage was perfect for me. I have taken an exam almost every single day for a month, but that's what had to be done!

I took A&P I (online at a CC) in the spring, so a good portion of the early topics in Micro (cell structure, lab techniques, etc) were basically review.

I've been very happy with the course and I am most likely going to take A&P II with them as well.

For A&P II or A&P I how are the exams structured? Are they proctored?

I have not taken A&P I or II via Portage, by I did take Microbiology. The final was not proctored but it was timed. I as very hesitant about Portage at first, but I can honestly say that I really enjoyed my micro course and I learned a lot about the subject. I think Portage is a great program!

Great thank you! Do you know if I could sign up at any time and start the class right away? Also how did you know if your school accepted your course taken by Portage? Also do you think a class by them would be doable to finish in a month?

Yes, you can sign up at anytime. It takes about 24 hours or so for them to assign you an instructor, but as soon as one is assigned then you can immediately begin the course. You can only take one exam a day, so the minimum time they say you can finish a course in is 3 weeks. I finished micro in just under a month with relatively little stress. You will want to call the programs you are applying to and make sure they accept Portage. The program I applied to accepts all of their courses. However, another program I am considering accepts all of their programs EXCEPT A&P1 and A&PII. Make sure you get a definitive answer from your prospective programs because you don't want to find out after investing the time and money that they won't credit you for it!

Hello all, when you request a transcript it does say Geneva College on it doesn't it? And its Geneva that is regionally accredited right?

Yes, your transcript says Geneva College.
