I know there are different acuity levels, but on your floor, what is the nurse-to-patient ratio? I just want to add them all into a visual-friendly poll.
(If you work with "couplets", include mom and baby as one patient).
1:4 generic patients (stable bronchiolitis, pertussis, TB, mouth/throat surgery, or teaching before discharge)
1:3 max if any of them is an airway patient (more severe bronchiolitis, or anyone with a trach). Only 2 trachs at a time, plus one easy generic.
1:2 if one is a busy trach or trach/vent patient, or recent d/c from PICU and still busy with wounds, etc. No more than 2 trach/vents at a time.
We are ICU step-down so still critical care. If they have ET tube or drips (other than PCA pump or narcan) they are in PICU.
Cardiac surgery step down. On good night-4-1. Short staffed 6-1
Crazy!!! We take post op day 1 open heart surgery patients, and I couldn't imagine having up to 6 of them!!! Three seems like too many at times.
I work on a split med-tele/PCU
Absolute max on days/PMs for tele is 5, NOC is 6. PCU max is 3. There is a max of 3 even of only one of the patients is PCU.
