Hey All,
I have to write a scientific methods paper for pysch. Please tell me what you think about male nurses in OB, specifically the delivery room. I am not looking to start a huge debate just taking a survey.
Thanks Everyone!!!

I answered 'ok all the way' because I do think that it doesn't matter as long as they are competent.
Now the illogical part: personally, all skills equal, I prefer a woman to care for me for OB/GYN stuff. But I would never impose that feeling on anyone else, and I wouldn't go to a woman at all costs - only with all other things being equal.
As far as co-workers - I like working with guys so that would be great!

OK all the way!!! I have no problem going to a competant male doctor, why should a male nurse bother me? When I had my dd, a male student nurse was in the room and the instructor said to me, do you mind if he looks at your incisions? I was like, heck no, everyone else and their brother has looked, it is a great learning experience, ROFL... I think it bothered him more than me, after I had my dd, I had no modesty, ROFL.

I think there is nothing wrong. I am not sure why people always as this question (I understand this time it is for a paper) but it is like say, "Should a woman practicioner be able to do prostate checks?" :chuckle

Male nurses should definitely be ok. They are only doing their job, so the situation is completely professional.

Wouldn't it be silly to take a poll and ask if female nurses should be allowed in the OR if a guy is having a TURP?
How is this poll any less silly?
In fact, the only way you can argue that this poll is less silly is by arguing that there is some moral flaw inherent in the character of men (and not women) that calls into question their trust around members of the opposite sex.
And that's just silly.

I had a male nurse either care for me primary or to assist for both my kids. Heck I did not care LOL. Having had both kids natural without meds UH if anyone came in to help me that was great LOL.

All I'd care is that you'd get that kid outa me and keep us both alive and as healthy as possible. When I'm screaming and digging my fingernails into the father's face, it makes precious little difference what gender the nurse is. By the time you deliver, God and everybody and your mother-in-law has seen your anatomy, what's one more person?
Why Are None Of The "no"s Explaining????

I'm more of yes and no. I think that it doesn't matter who is present for a delivery as long as they are a good nurse, but I think that the patient should have an option. My first delivery, I was not in this field and would have been a little stressed out for there to have been a male nurse. I had female OB's, nurses, etc. Durring my second delivery however, when the baby got into distress, the best person in the room was actually a male nurse. As long as the patient gets the option to not have a male nurse if they are uncomfortable with it, I think it' OK
I'd rather have 100 males in the room than one mother- in- law :rotfl:
