Poll for those who have already taken NCLEX..

Published

For those of us who have already taken boards, please answer a few questions that might help ease the minds of those who are still waiting to test or for results. I know reading as much as possible about other people's experience helped me feel a little bit better while I waited.

1. How many questions did you take on NCLEX?

2. What study materials did you use? Did you take a test review course?

3. Did your SON offer any testing (ERI, ATI, HESI)?

4. How long did you wait for results of the test, or are you still waiting?

5. What were your thoughts coming out of the test (total disbelief, certainty you had failed, confident you had passed)?

6. Was this your first attempt at NCLEX?

Good luck to those who are waiting and ++++ thoughts for those who are waiting on results!!

1. 75 questions

2. I took a Kaplan review course right after graduation (their review of content is great, questions really weren't that similar to mine), also loved Saunders Q&A and Prioritization, Delegation, and Assignment by LaCharity--these were most similar to the majority of my questions!

3. Our school used ERI--which sucks!

4. 48 hours for unofficial results--I thought I was going to die!

5. I don't know if the people running the exam have any clue as to whether we pass or fail, but when I walked out of the door I had absolutely no idea whether I passed or failed!!! I tried to read the guy as I was leaving, but he was stone cold--darn! I only had 1 drug that I had ever heard of, the rest were new and everything else was pretty much priority based!!

6. First time, and never doing it again :-)

2. What study materials did you use? Did you take a test review course?

I used Saunders, Illustrated Study Guide, Memory Notebook of Nursing, Lippincott's, and NCSBN. Our school also provided a review course (but we had to pay for it). I recorded all the lectures and listened to them again when I was preparing for NCLEX. That helped me a lot.

3. Did your SON offer any testing (ERI, ATI, HESI)?

I did take HESI twice (it was required by the school). I got 800 something the first time, @the end of second semester, (I was in an one year BSN program), and 920 @ the end of the program.

4. How long did you wait for results of the test, or are you still waiting?

I waited for 49 long long hours. It was so hard! I could not do anything while I was waiting for the result (I only ate one meal on the second day). And it got worse for the second day.

5. What were your thoughts coming out of the test (total disbelief, certainty you had failed, confident you had passed)?

Right after I finished the exam, I felt ok. I was glad that I only got 75 questions, cause I prayed so hard for that. After I checked the answers for a few questions that bugged me so much and found out that I did them all wrong, I started to feel as mesrible as I could be for the rest of waiting period.

5. what were your thoughts coming out of the test (total disbelief, certainty you had failed, confident you had passed)? i was sick and had a fever, so all i cared about was taking some tylenol and crawling back into bed. i also waited 9 months after graduation ("maternity leave" but it was more like procrastination that turned into utter fear), so i also was just relieved. i really didn't care for a couple of hours afterward. then, i went into a full-blown panic. ;) up until about 20 minutes before i found out my results, i was terrified i'd failed. then, during that last 20 minutes, i got this sudden burst of confidence and knew i'd passed. i literally jumped up and down and thanked jesus over and over when i found out. i scared my infant when i did also. he screamed- it was actually pretty funny. and i'm definitely not the type of person that gets excited like that. i'm usually pretty mellow, so you can tell how excited i was! ;)
