Cardiac Cath Advice
Any advice or heads up on possible transfer from emergency room (high volume, lots of drips, MI's) to the cath lab. I'm also a little wary of possible radiation exposure as a young male. Thanks!

CA ED Ratio??
Is the ratio for ED's in CA really 4:1??? Coming from NYC I find that very hard to believe and thinking about a location change!! I've had 10 admitted patients one night, 2 ICU, 3 TELE another day, 15 patients another afternoon. Its starting to wear thin on me.

How did you guys realize that nursing was for you?
while in school i switched my major from nutrition/dietetics to nursing. i wasn't sure what i wanted to do but knew it wasn't medical school. i also wanted to help people. i considered myself a person that liked to work with my hands, a people person and more practical. i realized nursing was for me when i started clinicals and it was one of the best feelings in the world.

Poll for those who have already taken NCLEX..
How many questions did you take on NCLEX? I got 75 questions. 2. What study materials did you use? Did you take a test review course? I used Saunders, Kaplan question trainer, NCSBN online. 3. Did your SON offer any testing (ERI, ATI, HESI)? My school did the DRT. I scored in the 98th %. 4. How long did you wait for results of the test, or are you still waiting? I waited for 2 days/ 48hrs. 5. What were your thoughts coming out of the test I was glad it was over. Felt good, some questions were really interesting. 6. Was this your first attempt at NCLEX? First try.

Need advice whether I"m ready or not please!!!!!!!!!
Getting a 90% or 55% on one Kaplan Question Trainer Test does not determine your readiness to take the NCLEX. In all likelihood people who passed are those who did questions upon questions over some weeks. Personally I did 4,000 questions (w/ rationales). So if you did the work don’t let the anxiety scare you away. You passed nursing school and you have the wealth of knowledge and advice on this forum.

TIPS/Info for passing NCLEX
Passed 1st time w/ 75 questions. I studied for about 2 1/2 months. A little bit each day (was working on permit too!). I used Saunders and Suzannes guide/info. Thanks Suzanne! you can find the info by checking the Sticky: First tip of my new study guide I was pretty much done with the Saunders CD so I did the questions on NCSBN online and the Kaplan Question Trainer. I personally found the Kaplan Question Trainer questions and format most like the NCLEX. Either way all the questions and rationales will help you to study and if you're weak in an area, review it (saunders book is a good quick review) Good Luck All!

The CUNY Nursing School Survey
CUNY Kingsborough CC in Brooklyn is a good program. The instructors and clinicals were great. No real complaints here. I feel confident that they prepared me well to be a safe and competent RN. The NCLEX pass rates are yearly above 90% and another good barometer of the program is that the incoming seats keep increasing. The most recent incoming class was 100 students. Study hard for the prereqs and do well as this will be a good measure of acceptance and success in the program. Even though it is a 2 year program, my classmates (NUR Program, not the other classes) were some of the brightest people I have met. Many have BS in other fields, some were ex premeds, some were advance science degree holders in other countries. In conclusion, I would recommend this program to anyone.
