How long before license # is posted on-line????
Same as neeniebean, I took my NCLEX on a Friday morning and found out I passed on Sunday morning via the pearson website. My license number, however, was not posted on the BON website until about 6-7 days later (It was finally up on the following Thurs if remembered correctly).

North Shore University RN Fellowship? Input needed!
Wow thanks for giving us the other side of the story Mother23!! I've only heard nothing but the good and positive things about this critical care program in the past (which I did applied for but they didn't take me :imbar ) and it's good to have other perspectives for other new nurses thinking about applying, and i am sorry your experience was not a good one. However, I just want to point out that your experience is only from the CTICU at LIJ from what i am reading... do you know if that's also the case with the other fellows in other units and hosp (SICU, MICU, CTICU @ Manhasset) ??? I am not sure how long ago was your experience, i mean could things have been different now perhaps (hopefully b/c i know a few classmates/ friends whom are in the program now)? I've heard different things from different people who have been/are in the program.. it could be b/c they are in diff units/hosp, etc. Just curious Mother23, when I applied I went for the SICU @ LIJ and I seem to remember that the CTICU there is connected to SICU, right next to each other with the same manager is that correct?? Thanks~

My classmate who graduated with me in Dec'07 JUST got a job in the ICU at NYM in March... I hope she's gonna be okay... I know she have to support her family since her father passed away last year...

North Shore University RN Fellowship? Input needed!
Billythekid - WOW thanks for all the detail infos!! And also sorry I thought you'd knew about the salary already because you said you've ready met the ICU manager and I've never been thru these formal interviews before so I thought they might have told you already .. Sorry~ Dun get me wrong, i was wondering because i heard that in NYPresby they give you a lower salary if you join their Nursing residency program (correct me if i am wrong).... so i was wondering if NS is doing the same thing. I am also surprised to learn that there's a third person to see after the ICU manager... wow! Thank you also for the detail breakdowns of the fellowship program...!! Are you gonna consider going for this fellowship program if they hire you? I am still debating about NSUH or NSLIJ... i heard that LIJ has better management then NSUH... not sure if this is true.

North Shore University RN Fellowship? Input needed!
Hello Billythekid, Congrats!! So you've been thru the interview and did they want to hire you?? I am also scheduled to have an interview with them about this program in Jan!! I also would love to find out more about this fellowship program. I am surprised they didn't tell you anything more about this fellowship program during your interview?? Anyway, after doing some searching around allnurses.com (I LOVE this site!!) this is what I know so far about this program: You get to pick a specialized ICU of your choice (for me i want the SICU!). It's a one year program consisted of 3 semesters; classrooms for the first 2 months (have to get above 80% to pass all exams), and then they will put us on the ICU unit with a preceptor for another 4 months or so, for the other 6 months i have no idea b/c that's how much i've found out so far and i dunno if anything has changed. (please correct me if i am wrong!) oh and also there's a 24 months committment to work in the ICU. I hope this helps!! and if anyone know more about this program please give some inputs!! Some questions for you Billythekid, since you've already been through the interview, if you dun mind, did they tell you about the salary range for this followship program? I know that their base salary range now is about 62-64K, but i am wondering if they give less if we wnat to go into this followship program? Thanks so much and hope to hear more inputs~!

SUNY Farmingdale
hmm.... Actually I've heard similar things from my friend's program. She graduated from LaGCC and the program told them also that LaGCC nurses are chosen over other new grades b/c they know what they are doing when they graduate, etc etc. I know that LaGCC have 100% NCLEX passing rate and that when my friend graduated (they started from 40 people i believe) there was only handful of them with other students from previous semesters graduating with them. I believe all nursing programs are not easy... and passing NCLEX, which doesn't really quantitate one's competency as a nurse, is just the first step into the real world of nursing; but i agree with chunk, no one wants to go to school with passing rate of 50%... just my 2 cents

how long did it take you to complete your PRE-REQS?
Helllo~ I took four of my pre-req at Laguardia CUNY (and one in City tech) as well before going into the nursing program... it took me one fall (3 classes) and a summer (2 classes) to finished....so i started march 06 at LaGCC and was done with all the prereq in summer 06 and i was in the nursing program fall06 and now i am in my second sem in a nursing program. However, since i already had my bach. in psych at that time, like i already mentioned i only needed to take about 5 pre-reqs (all the sciences classes).. so i took 3 classes in spring06 and if i remember correctly i took A+P I, Nutrition in LaGCC and Micro in City Tech... yes i actually went to 2 colleges back and forth that semester to ensure that i can finish everything before fall to get into the program.... it wasn't easy... i mean it's doable but i remember i was so exhausted that semester. Another thing you should note and also was my reason of going to 2 school at the same time back then was because at LaGCC, micro was not allow be taken before A+P I and II was done... so think about it they are making you staying at least 3 semester inorder to finish everything!! (i am not sure if anything have changed since) so, since i didn't want to waste another semester, i went to 2 diff college at that time b/c city tech didn't have that rule.. they let you take anything as long as you paying as non-degreee student (yes it was expensive).... with all that said, what i am trying to tell you is, first of all, if you are taking 4 classes in Fall be prepare you will be pulling your hair out... i am kiddin but close to that point, it's not going to be easy.. and really i would suggest only 3 classes to max your chance of getting the highest grade.. And second of all, ask and make sure if you can take micro and A +P together in the same semester since you wanted to finished within 2 sem... (i really doubt LaGCC will let you do that). so.. if money is not a problem (i spend about 2600 for that spring06 sem at those 2 school for 3 classes) and you dun mind traveling 2 school back and forth.... you *might* be able to make it a summer and a Fall.. but dun be surprise if you need to stay a sem longer since you have at least 6 classes to be done... yes lagcc has 4 semesters in a year, but keep in mind not everything will be offered... you have to plan really well, know what they will offer, know the time and rules.... Sorry this is long........i hope this helps and gooood luck!!

New grad who is an international student!
stac123, i am sorry to hear your situation, i can't believe that... and yes my friend is a pretty lucky girl then.. did you even get to have an interview before they told you that? ..... plz dun give up! :nuke: one thing i want to point out tho... i am not sure if you knew this but i think since you are an international student usually the hosptial wouldn't even consider an international student if they didn't pass NCLEX yet... meaning you should at least get your license first before applying for jobs, it will increase the chance... my friend spent months to be prepare for the nclex and then got the license before she apply to any hopsitals.... i am sorry i didn't point this out before it wasn't on my mind at that time when i made that suggestion. if you can get a hospital to sponser you that's great but if not LTC is another whole new experience and most imp, a good chance for you to stay here, at least keep yourself legal to be here and wait for the chance to switch to hospital later... :stone i am sorry i didn't get to help you out.... goodluck for the rest of your jobsearch and keep us update!!:nuke:
