If anyone here thinks that healthcare is not already suffering because of Medicare cuts and reimbursement cuts as a result of Obamacare and the general state of the economy... are smoking some great crack (and I'd like some). And the bad news is, we are in a downward spiral with very little to no hope of stopping it. Staffing cuts are leaving our hospital workers overwhelmed and unable to provide the level of care that we once did. Value-based pricing, process measure indicators, and customer satisfaction scores, which Medicare reimbursement is now based on, have nowhere to go but down. Which equals more decreased reimbursement and even more staffing cuts. Our national leaders from the left and the right should hang their head in shame at what they have done to our national budget.
And hospital administrators need to pull their heads out of their elitist, overly educated a$$, and join us "peons" on the front line. Then, they can tell us we need to do more. We need a practical paradigm to emerge from this nightmare--- not more esoteric weak management and leadership philosophy from the school of BS model of useless politically-correct drivel. Our leaders need to extricate their lard butts from their inane committee meetings and take a peek at the state of things. Stop telling us "we know this is a problem, we are working on it" and do something about it---- that is why we pay you the big bucks.
How deep into Obamacare are we? And what does that have to do with nursing issues that have been evolving over the past decade? Actually, longer than that, if we remember Hilary Clinton's ill-fated attempts to reform the health care system. And what does unemployment have to do with any of this?
And what specifically happened during your day to trigger this? My sense is that the OP has some legitimate job-related gripes but I'm not sure that blaming them on Obama is a useful or effective way of dealing with them.
I think you all may have missed my point in it's incoherency. We should not have to fight our leaders for what is right. If you are being paid to run something (a nation or a business) you shouldn't run it into the ground. What have I done about it? I wrote a beautifully disjointed tirade on a message board. Now I am going to go knit something. I'll leave the protesting to the hippies.
Aww, c'mon now! We got your point. Should we have to fight our leaders for what is right? You're damned right we should! Just because someone has authority doesn't mean for a skinny minute that we should never question or challenge their decisions.
It goes without saying that someone that is being paid to run something shouldn't run it into the ground. That is precisely WHY we should question decisions, offer another point of view, research other avenues regarding prospective solutions to problems and take the time to OWN and usher changes that we seek. Leaders can't lead without advisors. Advisors can be anyone that presents a well thought out plan for change. A leader is ineffective if they don't address the needs of the people they are leading. In turn, the people have a responsibility to bring issues to the attention of the leader. How can we assume that leaders know what the hotly debated issues are if we don't bring them front and center? Don't be so quick assume that our leaders comprehend the issues that we feel so strongly about...the "elitist" administration will only listen if we speak loudly enough.
I encourage you to become involved with changes. Write out a list of issues that you have identified as problematic. Then do some homework and come up with solutions to these issues. Take your ideas to your NM.
I don't consider myself a hippie, but you can damned well count on my protesting and challenging policies that have no value.
Oh, hold on a minute while I go shave my armpit hair.

If your only recourse is to sit around and blame others, than why are you so upset over the current situation? It can't be that bad for you if you are too lazy to get off your butt and try to do something about. Just don't get upset wondering why nothing changes as you sit idley by with your hands in your pocket.
I was testing everyones ability for theraputic communication (you know that we learned in being a nurse 101). Some failed. Why so judgemental? Can't you see I am hormonal? With a little ADHD thrown in the mix. ... It's OK. I'm not so hot a theraputic communication and non-judgement either. Oh look a bunny...
Knitting though? Now you all are talking my language. A whole cable knit blanket? Oh man... I'm not worthy. Good luck. I did some some cable knit baby booties a while back. Was so proud of myself, don't think I will tackle a blanket though.
Sue-- I did a really cut baby hoodie recently, it was completely made with circular needles, so no seaming... was easy. Look up circular baby hood on ravelry if you are interested. Seed stitch, yeah, it does get old. I sat down once and made myself learn continental (is that the one with the yarn in the left hand?) Anyway, it's made switching from knit to purl a cinch. I can now do ribbing with my ears tided behind my back ;0)

We all need to come together if we want to make a change. Protesting is not just for hippies. It is for people who want to make a change. We all know that nurses are being forced to work in unsafe situations with our patients paying the ultimate price. We have to come together and show the American public what is really going on. I mean people still think that there is a nursing shortage! We need to educate the pubic.
