Please recommend me the best LVN NCLEX review book

Saunders is excellent for reviewing nursing content, whereas Kaplan is excellent for reviewing strategies for answering NCLEX-style questions even if you do not know the answer. I used these two books for review, and passed the NCLEX-PN on the first attempt.

I just took (and found out I passed on Saturday!! YEAH!) my NCLEX. My school suggested teh following books:

1. Straight A's in Nursing Pharmacology - this is really helpful to review the meds. I had a lot of questions on meds and stuff that I had never heard of.

2. Incredibly Easy NCLEX-PN review - this is very simple and actually helps with concepts. That is what you need to knwo anyway. It will boost your confidence that you know your stuff.

3. Lippencott's Review for NCLEX PN. There is a new version with new format questions. Get that one.

4. NCLEX-PN 250 New Format Questions - this one helps with the questions that we did nto see in school (multiple choice, diagram, etc.)

I found these helpful but no the "It" books for studying. I am not sure if one of those is out there.

Know your meds and concepts. The books will help you to sharpen your concept knowledge.

Oh, and the red Saunders book. It is hard but it is the best at getting your brain on a general topic. I will say that that book had a lot of stuff that I had never heard of before but it was still helpful.

I used Lippencott, Saunders and Del Mar but I found the cd's easier for me than the books. I think I was just too burned out on reading from school.

That's out there.
Our school uses the Orange Saunders one, but I spoke with alot of former students who just took the test and said that book didn't help them at all.
My question is, whats the go to book for reviewing for this test?
All help is appreciated.

Hi! I'm new to this forum.

I'm using Saunders as well. I think Saunders is good for content--can be overwhelming but is really good from what I've heard. Kaplan for strategies.

Also try Suzanne4's plan with the Saunders textbk--that's what I'm planning to do, she's got hundred's of positive reviews.

Saunders here. That is the only book I studied from. The chapetrs are divided into body systems. For example, there is the cardiovascular chapter. At the end is a mock test that you can take. Then, another chapter on cardiovascular meds is available to match the cardio chapter you just read. :) The CD-rom helps because you can time yourself and get into the mode of sitting at a computer and testing that way instead of just reading. It does make a difference.

Stay with your SAUNDER'S! Work the CD and by all means read,read, read! Pick out the things that are important in a disorder and pack it into your memory bank Read ,read,read. Good luck on your Boards.

I used all those books too plus Delmar and Davis. I used there cd's to which were helpful because it gave you random exams on all of the material.I passed my Boards the 1st time I tried. Good Luck! :lol2:

I didn't find any of them particularly helpful, but I used various CDs from Incredibly Easy, Lippincott, Saunders and Delmar's. I felt that to see questions in different styles, that would be more helpful. I used the Kaplan's book for strategy, and I guess it helped because when I came across some wild ones, I used Kaplan's suggestions to obtain the answer. I guess it worked because I passed with minimum questions on the first attempt. Good luck to you!
