Roll Call: Introduce Yourselves, LPNs!
I am a new LPN in southeastern WI, working for a specialty clinic, Oncology. After being a CNA for 13 years, I am liking this job very much. There are 8 years of acute care, and 5 years LTC as an aide. My goal is to be an RN and I have 6 classes to take before I earn an ADN. However, I am rethinking that approach and wondering if going for the BSN right away would be a better idea. I have three children, a girl and two boys. Last but certainly not least, my Christian faith plays the biggest part of my life.

LPN Starting Salary
I graduated in May of 2007, got my LPN license in September and started my first/only LPN job in an Oncology outpatient clinic. Base salary is 18.24 an hour. But, I have 8 years of acute care and 5 years of LTC under my belt from being a CNA. Plus, I am in the third semester of an Associate Degree RN program. We currently reside in Southeastern WI.

uwm, uwmadison, or matc
Hi. Im a third semester ADN student going part time at MATC. My children are 5/3/and 1. I work 40 hours a pay perriod. MATC has been good to me. They offer theory courses online. Clinicals during the day, evening, or evey other weekend if you are a Monday thru Friday worker. Te program is offered at 2 campuses, Milwaukee and Mequon. I used to go to downtown. Now I'm at Mequon to avoid the parking structure fees and hassle of driving down there. It is a half hour hike but worth it for the serenity. They allow you to take classes at your pace, part time or full time. I have known many people who have families and have gone full time, which is equivelant to 4 classes a semester.(This being the actual clinical phase of the program, after prereqs are completed.) Teachers are helpful and want to see students pass. Our passing requirement is 80% at this time. Also, it is an inexpensive route to your education. If student loans are in the picture, would you rather come out owing 5-6 thousand(roughly) or 20-21 thousand for a two year degree? If you plan on buying a house and continuing on with your education, keeping your debt to income ratio down is very smart. On the other hand, some people would rather pay the money to get done that extra year or semester faster. Best wishes to you.:nuke:

Good nursing schools near Tulsa, Oklahoma
I miss Tulsa!(Lived there for 5 years) Most of my friends went there to attend ORU. :) If you want a solid Christian education along with nursing ORU is an awesome choice. TCC is good if you would like to take your time due to familial responsibilities or whatever other reason there may be. Plus they offer an inexpensive route to schooling. TU is more downtown and gives an urban feeling. Not to mention, the campus is beautiful. I am an RN student in WI and most of the institutions are private (around Milwaukee). So, I am at MATC for the first two years and them I will continue at a university that offers an RN to MSN progression track. Happy nursing! Mtrof3:nurse:

Hello fellow cheeseheads!
Good morning, afternoon, and eveing! LOL One question to those of you whom chose to shed some light on my foggy brain. We are thinking of relocating to Madtown(Madison) next spring. I am an LPN. Planning on earning an RN after our move. DH is an RRT. We have three children, 5, 3, and 1. 1. What is a desireable place to live in Madison(Besides MIddleton) :) I am only familiar with Sun Prarie seeing as how I dated a guy from the Sound (high school marching band) back in the early 1990's. 2. Schools.... which school area is the best? I have no idea where to start, its so vast. The Madison school website blew my mind. There's like 5 different "areas" of schools. Jeepers. 3. Any other insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time. All of you...

Please recommend me the best LVN NCLEX review book
Saunders here. That is the only book I studied from. The chapetrs are divided into body systems. For example, there is the cardiovascular chapter. At the end is a mock test that you can take. Then, another chapter on cardiovascular meds is available to match the cardio chapter you just read. :) The CD-rom helps because you can time yourself and get into the mode of sitting at a computer and testing that way instead of just reading. It does make a difference.

How many questions determine whether or not you pass or fail NCLEX-PN?
Just took NCLEX today. My PC shut off after 85 questions too. I am in Wisconsin..... so hopefully I can find out by early PM tomorrow seeing as how Madison downloads all of the results every Wednesday. So, to my fellow cheeseheads, try and schedule for a Monday or Tuesday.
