Accused of Racism!
As I started reading this post I was not going to comment. First of all Mystery you sound like you still have some issues going on with blacks. Second of all not all black people use the so called race card whatever that is to try and get by. I work with people everyday that are prejudice and they do not even have to say a word. Body language speaks very loudl. But I know how to pray to well and hard for people that do not understand that the blood that runs through their veins is red just like mine. And in this profession we all should know that when you get sick you do not know who is going to have to take care of you. No matter what the color of skin. So my point is that it is 2005 and we all know the history and we have to move forward. I treat all of my CNA's equal and it does not matter to me what the color of their skin is. If this CNA is truly doing poor patient care then it should be dealt with in the proper manner; and you cannot tackle this if you are new to the facility and she has been doing this all time. If she has been there for 7years and doing poor patient care then this issue should have been addressed long before you ever came to the floor. There again it falls back to adminstration before you. This saddens me that this kind of stuff is still going on in this society. It just makes me stronger though because I do realize that my ancestors had a hard task coming through all the racism in this society. It just makes me even more greatful that they fought hard so that myself and my children couldl have better opportunities that everyone else has. So therefore, I do not think it is a race card it is just the fact that everyone wants to be treated equal. At the facility I work at there are more African-American CNA's but I do not treat the White CNA's any diffrently and they truly respect me for that. Fair, Firm, and Consistent........No matter what the color...we all have a job to do and that is what we are there for the residents....I am so sorry that you use to have a problem with black people and I hope that you are really over that issue...but somehow I still think you might still have a few issues with the black situation...Continue Everyone To Smile and Be Blessed :angryfire

LPN/LVN rate of pay in your area.
Pay here where I am at is about 12.00 an hour. You can make more with an agency. They make about 17.00-24.00 an hour. Hospitals are paying about 11.25 an hour. Long-term is the best way to go to make any money. You basically need to go to Birmingham or Huntsville to make some money. I do not know, but all in all you just have to leave the state of Alabama to make a decent living. I am originally from Texas but I love the south, was considering Florida, Georgia, or maybe South Carolina.....just have to do your research. The cost of living here is decent but just need to relocate where I can make about 17.00 an hour on a regular basis. I am going back for my RN degree, since I have been working I know that this is something that I really need to do...... I work days now so I cannot really complain get to be home with my family.. I am so use to working nights that I do not know how to act. I will be back on nights when I get back into the RN program.. I hope everyone eventuallys get the salary they are looking for. :) :) :) :) Shunda

Just Venting?
My test stopped at 107 questions and I am waiting on my results also. I took my test on Wednesday March 23rd. I am also so nervous and waiting on a response. We do not have quick reults in the state of Alabama so now I am just playing the waiting game. Depending on where you are your state may have quick results. I will keep you posted on whether or not I passed. Like all the posts say we are just going to have to wait and see. Just try to stay positive. I know this is easier said than done but we do not really have a choice at this point. Think happy thoughts. Because the Best is yet to come. Shunda

anyone considering going back to school to become an RN?
I graduated in December 2004 and I am going back for my RN degree. I am finishing up my pre-reqs for the RN program. I am going to go ahead and try to get it out of the way while I still have the enthusiasm and the drive. I should be finished hopefully by December 2006.

Salary to expect as a new grad nurse
Hello, I was reading your post and I recently graduated from LPN school in December and my husband wants to move back to Mobile because that is where he is from and my inlaws live there. I was going to go to RN school here but if we move to Mobile then I will have to go there. I receive a job offer from Kindred Healthcare. Do you know of any good facilities there I know Providence and Mobile Infirmary is there. Do you have any suggestions and what are the good nursing programs for RN. I know there is USA and Bishop State. I know the cost of living is not that bad in Mobile. Do you like Mobile, I like it when we come to visit but that is a difference from living there. I love Florida it is so beautiful especially down by Miami and Tampa area but I do not know what the cost of living is there. I heard it is very expensive deep south of Florida. I appreciate any input. :)

Looking to relocate,to a kid friendly, LPN friendly city that pays good. Any suggest?
I just got off the phone with my aunt and she lives in Riverside, California and she says Las Vegas is a great place to consider. I am really excited. I am going to research on the internet and check it out. Thank you for your suggestions.

Looking to relocate,to a kid friendly, LPN friendly city that pays good. Any suggest?
Hello, I just graduated Dec. 16th and I am working at the hospital on a Med-Surg floor. I am back in school this semester finish up my pre-requisites for my ADN degree. I really do want to relocate though. I am making 11.35 an hour and that is with shift diff/1.35 for 3rd shift. I am originally from Texas and I am in Alabama now. I like the south because of the weather but I do not like the pay. I have been thinking about Jacksonville, Florida, Atlanta, Georgia, my mom likes Las Vegas, Nevada(but do you think that would be a little to fast???) My aunt lives in Riverside, California but the cost of living in Cali is just ridiculous. Do you all have any suggestions? I like nice warm weather and do not really want to play in the snow :) I just want to move where the pay is pretty decent for an LPN. My husband is flexible he likes cold weather I do not. Thank you in advance for any help you give.

How many questions determine whether or not you pass or fail NCLEX-PN?
I took my boards on Thursday Jan. 20th and I was so nervous. I know they told us the questions could range from 85 to 205 questions. I had to take the whole 205. Is this good or bad? I am so nervous. By me being in Alabama we do not have quick results so I am so scared. What does it mean by the number of questions that you have. Is it the more you have the more they want you to redeem your self or what? I have a friend that is a RN and she said the first time she failed it with 85 and when she took it again she passed with all 265 questions. How do you know? Just needed some input while I wait. Shunda :)

Should new grads jump right into Med-Surg?
Hello, I just graduated December 10, 2004 and I am working at a hospital on a Med-Surg floor. I love working with the patients but I have new found respect for us nurses. This floor is so short staff that they did not give us orientation but just started giving my friend and I patients (she is a new grad also) as if we had been in nursing for years. Now I know that they prepared us for a lot of things in clinicals but when you are a new grad this is really overwhelming especially when you have not been oriented to the floor you are working. Needless to say that this particular floor has a high turn over rate. Wonder Why??? :) :) I am really trying to hang in there because they say everyone needs some med-surg. I like psychiatric nursing and that is what I eventually want to do but I tell you it is discouraging. I start this semester back getting ready to finish up my pre-req's so that I can go into the mobility program in fall. I would really like to hear your point of views. :)

Any Regrets?
I just graduated December 16, 2004 and I work on a med-surg floor and I when I tell you that we do everything an RN does, except push IV meds and hang blood. Just less pay. If you can just go ahead and get your RN degree. Do not get me wrong I have a lot of excellent skills as an LPN but just get it out of the way. I will be starting school on the 10th of this month preparing for RN mobility program. Whatever you decide you cannot go wrong because you will have a job. :)

full nights vs. rotating
I currently work night shift and I am in school. When I was working full-time on nights I too was miserable. So I came to the conclusion that I was going to have to do something so I went part-time. Now for you this might not be an option but see if you can get an extra day off during the week. Also, everyone is correct you are going to have to get your rest as if you worked days. I have 3 little boys and night shift is very hard to adjust to because your body was designed to sleep at night. You will not ever just totally adjust to the night shift but get your proper rest and exercise and try not to change your eating habits. Also keep preservering for that day shift job. Even though the nurses at your job have been there for years anything is possible. Talk to your supervisior and keep the faith and hold on because you could get days sooner than you think. I am going to keep you in my thoughts and prayers and I am going to pray that you get days real soon. HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!!!!! SHUNDA HOLD ON THE BEST IS YET TO COME!!!!!!!!!
