  1. As a new LPN in SE WI, I started at $20.00 for first shift and 21.50 for second shift. Big help while finishing nursing school!
  2. I agree about being an sni! I learned so much just from working as a nurse intern and it is true that they are always upping their requirements but not changing the curriculum. You now have to get an 80% on tests to pass the class and u can only retake a class once! I think this is a good idea to weed people out tho.
  3. Hi, I am currently at Gateway tech and i start clinicals this january. I am really excited bc i have been trying to get into clinicals for a while now. I actually went to uw-madison for prenursing right out of high school then came back to go to parkside but that program is ridiculous and they only take about 20 students out of over 100 that apply. I plan to finish clinicals through gtc then go back to uwp to get my bachelor's (it's only 6 more credits). If you have any other ?s let me know!
  4. Yeah, i got in to the program at gateway. My advisor said they had extra seats available and i go to orientation this week and start clinicals. Im sooooooo excited!
  5. Nurse techs work alongside the RN, like a CNA. We do a lot more than i ever thought i would be doing such as taking blood (phlebotomy), charting, and telemetry/heart monitoring work. I have also been checking the mail waiting anxiously; no call or letter yet. Good luck to you!!!
  6. I work in the ccu as a nurse tech and plan to be a student nurse intern in January when i hopefully start clinicals. What semester are you in at GTC? do you like the program so far? Ive floated to the ER a few times too.
  7. General AP is mostly memorization; however, advanced AP is mostly concepts and understanding of the different body systems.
  8. hmm...i have all the pre-reqs done but was thinking about taking oral communications in the fall. have you taken it? Im also a pca at st. cat's. where do you work? I know what you mean about the time thing...ive been in prenursing for 3 years and so ready to start clinicals.
  9. I definitely would not take it online. I think it would be very difficult to pass because there is a lot of information and can be a very difficult class.
  10. Hi there, I am currently waiting for my acceptance letter into the Kenosha Gateway program. I am so anxious!!! I am actually really happy that they made the requirements harder. I talked to Rich Lenz and he said that there were a lot fewer petitions this time. Im so ready and excited to start clinicals. Have you gone to other schools? I was at uw madison for 2 years, then came to uw parkside to save money and live at home but i didn't get accepted to the parkside program and I have a 3.7 so i don't know what they're looking for. do you work as a cna? I am so excited!!! I heard we get phone calls and letters go out the 24th of August so let's keep our hopes up:)
  11. I actually just applied to the uwp/uwm consortial nursing program and i did not get accepted. It was extremely disappointing bc i had a good gpa (3.7) and my advisor said i scored 'high' on the essay portion. I have no idea what they are looking for but they only accepted 24 students this past semester. Furthermore, they do not take the most qualified students bc they have to take a certain number of males and different ethnicities. I am going to apply to uwm in august and hopefully get accepted for spring 2009. My back up plan is to petition to gateway in june for the spring 2009 program. I did 2 years of prenursing at uw madison and then this past year at uw parkside. I have not lost hope and now working as a cna in the hospital- i will get into a program, im not giving up!!!
  12. That stinks, i am really having a hard time trying to figure out what to do...uwmadison seems impossible to get into. Are you currently in the nursing program at matc? Although i have most of the prereqs done (only need phys and micro) for uw, matc requires me to take like 6 more. So you honestly don't think i should transfer? Are you able to work while in school? Do you plan to go on to your bsn through uwm? any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks for the reply. Jess
  13. I am currently a prenursing student (2nd year) at uw-madison (bsn), however, i did poorly in phys. and need to retake it. This class lowered my gpa significantly and i feel my chances are very slim to get in. My options are to retake a couple of classes (phys. and my lowest grade was a BC in others), then apply for fall 2008, go to a tech college and work as a cna while finishing the prereqs; there is no waitlist bc prereqs must be done b4 going on the waitlist (less than 6 months). During this time i planned to take classes towards my bsn (matc milwaukee to uwm). I don't know if it is a waste of money and time to switch to an adn tech college from a top 4 yr college. Please give me any advice, Im going crazy!
  14. i am currently a prenursing student at uw madison. I am taking a cna course up at the tech college up here also but thinking of transferring to a tech college to finish up. In the uw system all of the credits transfer, they ahve a special agreement. I plan to work as an rn and then while working get my bsn through either uw or uwm. Im just trying to decide now whether i shud go to a tech college or retake a couple of classes that i got BC in and see if i get in. Good luck with your goals.
