Hi there! I'm from the Philippines and migrated here in the US short after graduation and passing the local boards. I failed my first nclex-rn exam and I'm currently reviewing to take it again soon. I wish to hear from our fellow "kababayans" who share the same experience with me. My prayers for success to all of us who are preparing for the nclex! Good luck! :):):)
hi everyone! Wow this thread has come a long way..I took my exam the 2nd time last 4th of January and I just knew this morning that I passed. A great start this year for me. I used the ABC's of passing the nclex by Gapuz and saunder's nclex CD. Good luck to those who will be taking the exam. God is Great:)

hi luke, can i borrow your gapuz? i dont have that ABCs
I took mine for the second time yesterday.
The first time, I used the entire 6hrs and reached till the 265th questions. Months before this, I joined the Kaplan live class, read the whole book, did all the tests, scored in the 60s (which they say is a good sign.) Listened to the online class again and did more tests. I did some of Saunders CD questions too and read the book. I thought I had it all. My first question was already tough, then came the math problems. One huge flaw of Kaplan - it doesn't give much attention to basic issues such as solving problems. And by this I don't mean simple ones like how many drops per minute kind of problem. When I looked up at the computer, I was on my 89th question. My spirit was just crushed. I realized that I already passed the coveted 75th cut off and I'm going for the long haul. To make matters worse - the same math problems kept coming back and lots of medicines that I have never ever heard of. I was getting loads of Addison's and Cushing's and endocrine problems. My head pounded and my belly grumbled like crazy. I felt numb, frustrated, stupid, misled (by Kaplan). I almost wanted to bail right that minute 'cause I knew that there was no way I was gonna make it. I expected to use the 5 steps of answering a question being stressed by Kaplan overtime, but it was all useless. They're all about strategy, with not much of rationale.
It took me over 5 months to get over the disappointment and depression. I ignored my Kaplan book and checked out online forums on what to do. I bought La Charity, which was a great help, not only did it help me understand the rationale behind prioritization and delegation, it made me develop my own strategy on how to understand what was really asked. Then I got the mnemonics book. It came in handy, specially with some meds. (I suck at pharmacology.) Then I copy-pasted ALL the "fact throwing" info that's shared here by users. Memorized normal values for the nth time. Then did lots of questions on Saunders CD on my spare time, like while watching TV, or when I was bored. I searched for math problems online and practised to solve difficult problems when I felt like it. This time around - I made sure I was not going to push myself into the grind like I did the first time. It was too much, and it backfired.
After 10 months since my first try, I braved the NCLEX-RN test again. This second time around, the computer stopped at 75 q's after a little over an hour. This time, I got a good pop up at pearsonvue. I am hopeful this time. Still anxious like hell, but hopeful.:)
I also went to the philippines to take up nursing, I do honestly believe that people who study sa states have a better education than us when it comes to theory and whats in the text book. Perhaps we have an edge on hospital experience because we have hands on training...I used saunders and did all the questions on the book and CD..lacharity book is a must..and then the day before the exam I used the gapuz nclex in a flash...just focus and dont stop studying..i studied for 2 months straight because i was weak on my content..good luck!
hi kababayans! I'm glad to see this tread =)
I've been in Cali for 2 years now and have a very few friends here.
Now I feel relieved that somehow I can have some friends here to give me strength. I failed NCLEX-RN 4times!!! and I don't know how to start again.
Do you have any suggestions what book to read and online course that could help?

if you got through the credit card stuff-that's what they called as BAD POP UPS. Well, anyways, you just have to wait for the letter from the BON. i know the feeling coz i felt the same way before. i stopped at 75 and i really felt that i failed and i did. but our life does not end up there.. we still could move on. so don't ever lose hope.. :)
