Ok. I brought myself a can of diet coke to work today. I knew my day would be messed up because I worked a couple hrs off a couple hrs took a kid to the doc then back on an hr. I came back in in the afternoon and finally sat down to finish my charting and I look beside the computer and sitting there on the counter was an opened Diet Coke. I lifted it up and it was almost full - but the most interesting part is that the can also has an X in black marker written on the can -- THe same X that I had drawn on my can when I put it in the fridge. Someone had helped themselves to my can of DIET COKE!
I immediately said to the nurse I was with "Well someone liked my diet coke just as much as I do since my can is here and opened" I then proceeded to get the can of pop, walk over to the sick and dump THE WHOLE CAN OF POP down the sink. If I can't have my pop, then NOONE is going to drink my diet coke!
Why are there some jerks who think they can help them selves to other peoples food/drinks in the break room fridge? KEEP YOU MITTS OFF OF MY FOOD AND DRINK!!! Sorry for the vent. I was steaming!:angryfire An act like this shows that a person has NO reguard or respect for their coworkers. Ridiculous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had someone quite a while back take my salad and pick all the cheese, tomatoes, radishes, cucumbers....everything extra out. All I had left was the lettuce. They even took my tupperware container with my salad dressing and a little bag of croûtons! I was beyond flabbergasted at the audacity.
:omy: That is just wrong...
solved a similar problem by leaving my lunch and drinks in a lunchbox with an itty-bitty lock holding the zipper closed (like for luggage).
actually started a trend, and even the residents (md's, not lol's) weren't brazen enough to take the whole lunchbox---especially since they didn't know what was in it [i favor hummus, veggies, and other boring stuff!!]
It seems like every facility that I have ever worked at has someone taking someone else's food/ drinks out of the frig. Terrible to think that we have that many thieves in our profession.
Sad to say, that's pretty true for me, too.
And, in a teaching hospital, it was usually a med student or resident.
We had an instance at my work where someone took a yogurt from the fridge and ate it...and it wasn't theirs (personally...I CAN'T eat someone elses food, how rude...and knowing our fridge, ummmmm how long has it been there...ewwwwww LOL!).
Anywhooooo...there was a two week WAR on our writer boards in the break room about it and it really got moral down! I mean seirous catty mean things!!!! I couldn't believe the things I saw written on the board over a yogurt!!!!!!!
My personal take...forget about it, someone was rude...but we deal with that DAILY if not HOURLY in our jobs. Next time med tape the top so they will have to undo that to open it! Seems silly, but it may detour someone! Also asking your CHARGE to put up a sign saying that this fridge is for personal home brought food, and not to be taken if it is not yours would help.
I would probably make a sandwich with a lot of habenero peppers since I can always take them out before I eat it. (Those peppers are hot enough to peel a layer of skin off the tongue) The person running for the water cooler with tears streaming down their cheeks would be the lunch vulture.
If they have a weak stomach------well, I'm sure there are enough gross out stories out there to "enhance" their dining pleasure.

A co-worker of mine discovered that her lunch came up missing.
Come to find out the dental assistant had taken her sandwich and given it to one of the resident's to eat.
Just no respect, no concern or anything for people who come to work and bring their lunch.
What do they think that we will eat for the 8-10-12 hours that we are there if they take our lunches? They don't even care.
