It seems that roughly 50% or more people will fail the first semester in my program. Is this standard? I ask because, although I myself am passing, there are people 100xs smarter then me who are not.
What are the failure rates of your 1st semester classes?
I am in a ABSN program. I think the youngest student is 26 and the oldest 55. We started with 14 in our cohort. We lost two, but because of financial reasons, not because they failed out. That was after the first term. No one in our cohort is ever close to the cut off line. Most are in the 90’s with a few in the upper 80’s.
I just finished my first semester. I think about 50% of the people will no longer be with us when I go back. This is my second time through college (went to a big 10 university and had a 3.6 with a double in accounting and finance). I managed to get straight A's this semester. I think nursing school is downright stupid the way they do things based on my prior college experiences (which were very high quality and organized). Where i go they look for every way to make you fail. They are extremely disorganized. They look for every way to not give you credit for things that you understand or are correct on, always on a technicality. The 50% who failed out, didnt fail out because they werent smart enough. It was by design, built into the program.

We didn't lose too many during the first semester but I'm anxious to see how many are there for the spring semester...
